So you can still twist to look over your shoulder when you’re reversing the car.

So you can reach up to the top shelf without wincing.

So you can put your shoes on, get out for a walk, sleep better, feel steadier and stay strong enough to keep doing the things you love.

🧘🏼‍♀️That’s the real yoga.

👌🏼That’s doing life.

If you’re at a stage where you don’t care about headstands, but you do care about feeling good, moving freely and keeping your independence…this practice is for you.

I offer a range of movement practices that feature yoga…and I’m specifically qualified in supporting clients with long term health conditions and those in older bodies.

I’ve a teaching space at home, but I’m also able to to come to you.

✨Making Space is Still Effort✨

☀️You know that feeling when the sun hits your face, the air feels fresh & for a moment everything just…settles?

That’s the space I’m trying to live in (& teach from) right now…the sweet middle ground where you’ve done enough, moved enough & can finally exhale.

This week we’re leaning deeper into our theme: The Space Between Effort & Ease.

It’s funny how often we think growth only happens through doing more…pushing harder…fitting in one more thing (as an eternal optimist I’m 100% guilty of this🙋🏼‍♀️).

But sometimes, the bravest thing we can do is pause (& I 100% find this super challenging to do🤷🏼‍♀️)…

To rest.
To reset.
To make space.

Because ease doesn’t mean apathy…it’s an act of awareness. It’s knowing when to soften & when to show up with fire.

It’s the balance between power & peace…both equally vital, both deeply human.

So this week, in practice & in life, we’ll explore the quiet work of making space…in our bodies, our breath & our minds.

Because Saturdays are for movement, laughter & community🧘🏿🧘🏼‍♀️🧘🏼‍♂️

For sweaty mats, deep breaths & now, that first sip of coffee (& bite of Rosie’s coffee cake) that tastes like pure enlightenment…& frankly, well earned💪🏼

We flowed; we stretched; we let go of the week..then we ate cake; drank coffee & caught up. My heart could not have felt more full when I pulled down the shutters this morning.

We might be closing the studio…but I reckon we could start a side hustle of running the Twisted Cafe. A community project where everyone chips in, we all bring something each week to eat & revel in the vibes! Who’s in?🙋🏼‍♀️😘👌🏼

When I started teaching way back in 2009, I had a dream that I could be at home for my kids & still work.

So we tore down our garage & built an eco-studio - perfect for hot yoga - in our back garden.

In 2011, Twisted Yoga was born🧘🏼‍♀️

I knew I could build something meaningful…with heart, with sweat & with soul…from that cosy wee shed, in a time & place where hot yoga on the outskirts of North London simply didn’t exist.

That little spark turned into a full-blown fire🔥

Over the years we’ve:

✨ Opened studio doors
✨ Supported thousands of students
✨ Run online classes & courses
✨ Created beautiful retreats
✨ Trained new teachers & mentored many more
✨ Hosted incredible guest teachers
✨ Built a real, human, heart-led community…something I’ll always be proud of.

❤️Real friendships have been forged.
🙏🏼Lives have changed.
🥰I’ve poured every ounce of myself into every class, every student, every space…& every hug I’ve given to those who needed one.

But none of it would have happened without Alex - his belief, his relentless DIY skills (even when I pushed my luck with the studio renovation requests 😅), his encouragement, & more recently, his role as chef extraordinaire on retreats (IYKYK 🥰).

Now here we are.

The world looks different. Studio costs have skyrocketed. Post-Covid recovery is still ongoing. Many small studios like ours have closed. While it’s hard to say goodbye to the physical space we’ve loved so deeply…this isn’t the end of Twisted Yoga. Far from it.

The business isn’t closing - it’s evolving.

The model no longer works…but the mission absolutely does.

So I’m not packing it in…I’m packing it up & bringing it to you.
Classes in beautiful community venues.
Joy-filled retreats.
Workshops, pop-ups, online content & all the heart-led connection we’ve always had…just in a new form.

I’ll also be channelling my energy into Alex’s growing solar panel & battery business, bringing my PA background, my spreadsheets & my slightly terrifying organisational brain to help us build something meaningful together in a different way (so if you want to get rid of your electricity bills and help save the planet then just get in touch🌍⚡️).

But don’t worry…I’m still teaching.
Still holding space.
Still very much here.
You can’t get rid of me that easily😉

Because that original dream still matters.
To work in a way that works for life.
For family.
For balance.
For joy.

Thank you - from the deepest part of my sun-saluting heart - to every one of you who has been part of this journey.

✨It Is What It Is…& that’s where the magic begins✨

Life doesn’t always go as planned.

Sometimes the path twists, the timing shifts & the things we thought were solid…start to move beneath our feet.

And in those moments, when we’ve done all we can & the outcome still won’t bend to our will, the only thing left to do is whisper, “It is what it is.”

But as Vex King writes, that’s not about giving up or surrendering in defeat…it’s about acceptance. It’s about recognising what we can control, releasing what we can’t & trusting that peace & progress can exist at the same time.

That phrase - it is what it is - used to frustrate me. It felt passive, like resignation.

Now, it feels like wisdom. Like the quiet kind of strength that doesn’t fight the current but learns how to float with it.

Because when we stop resisting change, we start to see the beauty in what’s unfolding.

We make space…for clarity, for alignment, for the next version of what’s meant to be.

That’s where I’m at right now.

Things are shifting behind the scenes…in my work, my business & the way I want to serve & connect. There’s movement, but it feels calm. Spacious. Like the next chapter is writing itself & all I need to do is listen.

Letting go has always been a lesson in trust…not just in what’s coming, but in who I’m becoming.

And I think that’s the quiet heart of yoga, too…learning to stay present, breathe through the transitions & find peace right here…even when the next shape isn’t yet clear.

So here’s to acceptance.
To release without resentment.
To doing less of what’s out of alignment & more of what feels true.

It’s been a minute…so here’s a little re-intro👋

I’m Nighean: yoga teacher, movement coach, gym bunny, & professional juggler of midlife chaos. Founder of Twisted Yoga (yes, still twisting😉), where the playlists are Balearic, the flows are fiery & the laughs are frequent (promise I’ve even mellowed, a bit).

Yoga is my longest love affair, now into our 3rd decade together & I’ve been teaching for 16 years. I help women (mostly around my age & general level of hormonal mayhem) feel strong, grounded & vaguely sane again. My classes are a mix of strength, stretch, philosophy & “oh good grief, are we really holding this for five breaths?”

I live in North London with my husband (electrical wizard, occasional chaos merchant & retreat chef extraordinaire); two brilliant kids - one currently plotting global adventures 🌏, the other somewhere between gaming, GCSEs & growing taller than me⬆️

I’m nearly two years alcohol-free…not because I “had a problem,” but because I realised I’d simply outgrown Pornstar Martinis & the version of me that needed them. Turns out confidence, calm & connection don’t come from a cocktail glass…who knew? (Eventually, me🤷🏼‍♀️)

These days, I get my buzz from a good gym session, a strong coffee, sunshine & parties with my girls…always with glitter, dancing & conversations that start deep & end in hysterics.

What matters to me?

✨ Real connection (no fluff, no filters)
✨ Movement that supports, not punishes
✨ Midlife women feeling strong, sexy & switched-on again
✨ Big energy. Big heart. Big tunes.

You can catch me teaching in real life at my public classes across North London - everything from slow soulful flows to fiery strength sessions. I also work privately with clients who want a more tailored approach, whether that’s rebuilding strength, easing stress, or just finding a bit more balance (on & off the mat).

Almost two years alcohol-free🛑🍸

I didn’t quit because I had a “problem.”

I quit because I outgrew the person who needed it.

When I look back, I can see a very lost, hurt, shy teenager who found her confidence & belonging through a drink in her hand. Alcohol made me louder, braver, more “fun.” Or so I thought. In reality, it just quietened the parts of me that didn’t feel good enough.

The truth is, I didn’t need alcohol…I needed healing.

I needed to do the work to understand why I ever believed I wasn’t enough without it.

Now, I feel more myself than I ever did when I was drinking. Not because I’ve become some perfect version of me (far from it), but because I’ve made peace with the messy, human, sometimes awkward bits I used to drink to hide.

We don’t have to hit rock bottom or have a “disorder” to realise alcohol might not serve us anymore. We can simply… outgrow it.

And when I did, I realised that confidence, connection, joy…they were never in the glass. They were always in me❤️🙏🏼

🍂Letting Go to Begin Again🍂

We talk about letting go as if it’s easy…as if we can simply breathe out once & everything we’ve been carrying just drifts away.

But letting go is messy. It’s layered…& complicated. It asks us to trust what we can’t yet see.

In yoga, the practice of letting go isn’t about giving up. It’s about softening our grip…on tension, on expectations, on the stories we tell ourselves about how things should be.

It’s about recognising that release is what makes space for renewal. Just like the breath: the exhale makes room for the next inhale.

When we stop holding so tightly, something amazing happens. The body moves with more freedom. The mind stills. And we find our rhythm again.

Suddenly, we’re not stuck…we’re shifting. We’re beginning again, not because everything’s changed, but because we have.

This week we continue to explore that dance between effort & ease, strength & surrender, learning that real power isn’t in holding on, but in knowing when to let go.

It’s the 1st of September…that “back to school” moment where we start to say goodbye to the heat of summer & step into new rhythms. This wee superstar only went & smashed her A levels & has been accepted into UAL Wimbledon Art School to do Costume Design (her first choice)!🥳👏🏼

What a summer she’s having!🌞

Now that her results are in she’s sorting out deferring until next year so she can take a year out to work & go travelling✈️ First stop: Australia for a month over Christmas to visit , then onto Japan & South Korea.

I mean, what?

Hands up who remembers being that driven & organised at that age? Blimmin’ brilliant! So so pleased for her🥰👌🏼

My Story

PROMISE YOURSELF | SHOW UP | LIVE TRUE

I have over 10,000 hours of teaching experience since qualifying in my 200 hours with Yoga Alliance under Paul Jerard of Aura Wellness in 2009.

Although my classes are constantly evolving, I continue to teach a challenging and dynamic practice that heals and detoxifies the body and mind. Emphasising awareness through precision and meditation in motion, my classes challenge the body, engage the mind and quicken the spirit, underpinned with motivational readings and traditional philosophy linking what is learnt on the mat to every day life.

In 2011, I founded Twisted Yoga. From the humble beginnings of my garden studio, and with the help of my partner Alex, Twisted has grown into two studio locations in North London.
