Super Charge your Senses
⭐️Sight Sense⭐️
Have you ever considered how understanding your senses impact your body? How about in birth?
This is a game changer when it comes to your considerations during birth.
Supercharging your senses, protecting them and flowing with them in an abundant way can help you get a dreamy birth ambience.
This week I’m going to be showing you how. First up is your Sight Sense.
There are many things you will see from here on in until you meet your baby that will have a negative or positive impact on your emotions- an u settling TV documentary about birth may bring anxiety, upset or worry.
Having a hospital appointment and seeing other women labouring in waiting rooms or feeling very “clinical” with bright lights and staff in uniforms.
All of this DOES have an impact on your present emotional state which in turn has an impact on your hormones - your BIRTH hormones!
So, there are some things you won’t be able to unsee- if you’re labouring in a hospital you will feel clinical , however consider how you can jazz your hospital room up to feel more home like. My best tip is to wear big light blocking sunglasses too - it takes the bright lights down a notch.
Switch off upsetting TV documentaries and pop on a positive birth video instead ( there are heaps on the social webs).
Small, subtle changes can make a huge difference.
What thoughts do you have on your sight sense and how to supercharge and protect it?

If you’d like to chat more about how you can tap into your senses during labour then my 1:1 Birth Coaching Call is perfect for you. Link in bio for more info.

Birth fear is real and the thoughts and feelings above are genuine words spoken from previous clients.
Imagine celebrating your pregnancy , something you’ve been awaiting or wishing and praying for since you were younger. You are half way through your pregnancy, when the worrying thoughts of giving birth creep in.

You try and forget them and have a “go with the flow” attitude, but deep down you’re dreading going through labour but you keep reminding yourself of the little person at the end those tiny ten fingers and toes you’ll meet at the end.

The worrying emotions you’ll feel during your pregnancy and through birth will remain in your wiring, in your brain. They’ll implant there until you create new pathways. New thoughts and feelings.

I bet you can remember the feeling of when you first met your partner, or fell in love with that guy from your teenager years. You’ll evoke a feeling when someone mentions your wedding day or when you exchanged on your house. Guess what, your emotions towards birth will do the same.

Whilst I can’t guarantee you’ll be smooth sailing through your birth, if you feel more prepared, confident and empowered you WILL create a better feeling and memoir of the experience. Something that will remain with you for life.

If you’d like to change the way you feel about the upcoming birth of your baby. Then let’s chat. I’ve plenty of support services for all birth prep budgets.
Check out the link in my bio, or pop me a message. I’d love to help.

Your midwife appointments are one of the spaces for you to feel focused on you and your baby. It’s the perfect opportunity to ask any questions you have and raise any concerns.

I have to say though, sometimes they can feel a little rushed and any questions you may have had a few days ago could have whooshed out of your brain and flown back in just as you leave the appointment.

It’s important you go into your midwife appointments feeling prepared and leaving feeling empowered and in control.

Use my question prompts in the slides above to help you through each one.

"The Ring of Fire"

I'm going to be totally honest with you and sound a little like a Hypocrite here but here goes....

Using scary words during birth isn't really my thing. BUT, this phrase gets thrown out there a lot, particularly when you maybe discussing the finer details of birth with others so I thought I should elaborate on what it actually means in more of a physiological sense.

When your babys head is working it's way out, the widest part of it's head will push against the opening of your va**na to encourage it to open. This , like all the other parts of birth make up the flow of the second stage of labour and is a moment to not be rushed.

Using the breathing technique in the above post can give you a focus and to prevent you from panicking. You may feel that your babies head will not fit through your va**na at this stage, that's a normal sensation and one of the moments to trust your body and be patient. It takes a little time for your va**na to open, breathe through this stage, believe in your body, this stage will pass and in minutes your baby will be in your arms.

Did you know that there is a third stage to labour? The part after your baby is in your arms and during the birth of your placenta!
This stage is something to consider and add your preferences into your birth plan as it can hugely affect the vibe post birth!
I’ll be sharing more about this stage of birth over the next few days so be sure to keep your eyes peeled.
Did you know about the third stage of birth and what would you like to experience in this stage?

Its easy to think that giving birth is a “on bed” experience from what you’ve seen and heard of over the years.
Your mind tells you that this is the norm l, it’s what the birth documentaries show - women lying in a bed on their backs giving birth.
Where the lying down in bed to give birth originated from is a bit like finding a needle in a haystack. Multiple sources of paintings and sculptures have been found over the years of our ancestors standing, squatting to birth their babies .
One important influencer was the 17th-century French doctor François Mariceau. Who decided that all his birthing women should lay down on a bed, it then became fashionable to do so, perhaps for the ease of the Drs at the time so everyone followed suit.
However, let’s be realistic here - you wouldn’t lay down and have a poo so why would you when you’re birthing your baby. I’m of course not comparing your baby to a poo, but you get where I’m coming from.
Upright , forward and over (as in leaning) is the most optimal position to support you and your baby through labour. Of course this depends on the type of birth you have and whether an epidural is involved. I will chat to you more about how to navigate an epidural another time.
What are your thoughts on being more upright for the birth of your baby? Did you have a UFO birth?

Positive Birth Story

I heard about hypnobirthing through a friend so I started reading about it in books, but then I came across Claire’s hypnobirthing course via a fit for birth course I was doing. I can strongly say doing my small course of hypnobirthing had helped my mind set in so many ways for my positive birth.
I use to get so many people saying negative things about “there experiences” during labour and the build up to it, “your plan will go right out the window”
But having a different vision on birth and listening to my body and my positive happy imagination really worked for me.
Listening to the audios at night, keeping me calm and helping me understand my breathing was a total break through for me.
I did have a plan for my birthing day, naturally your body does what it needs to do and so although it didn’t fully go to plan, I was still in control knowing I knew things were going right with it, I was connected with my body and my baby inside.
I am normally a really anxious person so this really helped me so so much, I totally believe by keeping as calm “as you can “ breathing and using the techniques given from Claire, knowing what bone was connected to another bone and by not tensing as much will make your body calmer , I did that and amazingly I was able to keep my birth with Louie as natural as possible.

Need help writing your birth plan? Don’t worry.. I’ve got you.

Here are my super simple starting steps in getting yours underway. You maybe under the mindset of “I’ll wait and see what happens” , which is a super chilled and no expectations way of thinking. However, if you didn’t plan your wedding day what do you think would happen? If you didn’t take driving lessons before your driving test, what would happen? On the day you’d feel under prepared, things may crop up that you’re not informed about and a combination of overwhelm and fear sets in.

This is the same for birth, whilst you may not be able to plan every element and some things may go out of the window. Having your foundations set in stone can help support YOU through all directions of birth.
