As this week marks , we wanted to share some key information about Facial Palsy (one of our specialisms here at QVH!) and what it means:
🟣 The term ‘facial palsy’ generally refers to weakness of the facial muscles, usually on one side of the face, mainly resulting from temporary or permanent damage to the facial nerve.
🟣 There are many possible causes of facial palsy, but the most commonly known cause is Bell’s palsy (a condition causing sudden weakness in muscles on one side of the face).
🟣 There are three stages of facial palsy and recovery: flaccid paralysis (when the face is floppy with no movement); paresis (when symmetry improves and tiny movements may begin) and synkinesis (when the nerve begins to regrow and involuntary facial movements can occur).
We offer a variety of facial palsy services, including:
🟣 Facial therapy treatment
🟣 Psychological support
🟣 Botulinum toxin (botox) injections
🟣 Surgeries
