Testimonials from previous attendees:

"I wasn't aware of the different techniques to teach phonics and I think this will be helpful when discussing with teachers prior to starting. I liked the ideas for simple games and made me realise how easy it was to incorporate into everyday life. I think it also reassured me that they don't need to know as much as I expected prior to starting and also reassuring that I'm doing the right things!!"

"I found the phonics class so helpful! I feel much more confident, I have a better idea of what will be expected of both my daughter in her first school year and of myself to help her in her adventure"

"Even though I have 2 children already at school and 1 starting next year, the session was excellent and very informative. I now have a better understanding of the basics and teachings of phonics, and what games and learning tools I can us to aid my son in prep for school"

Letting them loose! Mr L is doing his own face paint and the other two upcycling their doll's house. All part of growing confidence whilst developing their own ideas, negotiating with eachother along the way.

I would have loved to of done this myself and presented them with something bloody amazing that I was completely proud of but this will have a much bigger impact, so I'm letting go!

Making up our own phonics game today...here are the rules:
-object of the game is to get rid of your letter tiles
- if you land on a yellow space you have to put one of your letter tiles down and say the sound as you place it down
- if someone else lands on your letter they have to say a word with that sound in it or else they have to pick up another letter tiles
-if you manage to make a word from the letter sounds when it's your turn you get to 'dump another letter tile

Our Story

I am a qualified teacher, specialising in Early Years, with over 6 years experience teaching in primary schools and privately. After becoming a mother myself I could empathise with a lot of the issues and anxieties expressed to me by the parents of the children in my class. I was sympathetic to the fact that parents need more support in understanding what goes on in school and what their role as the parent is.

As a solution we came up with a range of services for parents to include support and general advice about filling academic gaps, boosting confidence (child’s and parents’!) and motivating learning. We demonstrate how children learn (at school or otherwise), highlighting the value of play and how parents can support more effectively at home in creative ways, appealing to each individual child’s interests, strengths and motivations. Parents have a huge impact on their child's academic success and they need to be well informed and valued as a partner. For example, our Learning Mentor service encourages parents to sit alongside us and note how we interact, question, play and motivate.

Services include:

-Private Learning Mentor
