Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the
protective myelin sheath around nerve fibres in the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves,
disrupting communication between the brain and the body.

Seven of the UK’s biggest MS charities are once again partnering to raise awareness about
the condition and the issues people with MS often talk about.

For 2026 the campaign will be challenging MS assumptions and the harm they can cause.
They really want to hear from people living with MS about their experiences of assumptions
and judgements in order to shape their campaign and there’s a short survey to complete
here.

Will Morgan will be taking on the London Marathon 2026 in honour of his father, David, raising vital funds for the MND Association.

As a former WashPod™ client, David’s story is one that remains close to all of us at Dignity Access. We are supporting Will’s fundraising efforts to help raise awareness of the profound impact motor neurone disease can have on individuals and the families around them.

With just one week to go, there is still time to show your support and contribute to this important cause.

When someone is ready to leave hospital but their home isn’t, it can mean weeks or even months of waiting in the wrong place.

This blog looks at how temporary, practical solutions can help bridge that gap—supporting safer discharges, protecting independence, and easing pressure on families, councils, and the NHS.

Friday the 13th is often considered an inauspicious day but not for one family in need last week.
Provided in just a week from enquiry to installation, this Mini WashPod™ temporary modular disabled wetroom provided an immediate and practical solution for an elderly relative returning home from hospital in a more fragile condition than he went in.

Ground-floor living had become essential for his safety and comfort but there were no suitable bathing facilities. However the Mini WashPod™ could be slotted in, without adaptations, into an ancillary room.

Initially considering purchase, the family opted instead for a monthly rental as they are confident of a good prognosis for recovery. Rapid deployment, minimal disruption, and adaptability made all the difference with their selection of a WashPod™, enabling a swift and safe transition home while supporting independence and dignity during rehabilitation.

WashPod has helped Steve, a 57-year-old father of four, regain comfort, dignity and independence after a life-changing road accident led to the loss of his leg. After returning home near Cirencester, Steve had no suitable washing facilities and was unable to shower properly for three months. “It wasn’t great to be honest,” says Steve. “I had to use a commode and couldn’t wash properly as I had to use the sink.”

Within weeks, a WashPod Compact was installed at his home, allowing him to shower again and manage his recovery more effectively. “I love it,” he enthuses. “I really love my WashPod. I was able to have a shower for the first time in 3 months which felt fantastic and I don’t have to rely on my girlfriend for help. What’s more the doctors are happy with me”. Steve now has time to consider the best long-term solution for his home while adjusting to his new normal. “Getting hold of a builder is impossible but now there’s no rush and I can decide what’s best for us. We don’t want to move and I can consider all eventualities calmly while I get used to my new-normal”.

The rapid installation of a WashPod temporary disabled wetroom helped Saffron Cresswell return home from hospital after a devastating fall at Defender Bramham Horse Trials left her paralysed from the waist down.

“I would still be in hospital if I hadn’t been able to wash myself at home and our house was definitely not equipped for me,” said Saffron. “The WashPod has allowed me to come home to my family and horses where I can continue my rehabilitation work and decide on what my future now holds”.

Funded by the British Eventing Support Trust, the WashPod was installed in time for Saffron’s return home, giving her greater independence as she continues her rehabilitation.

“There have been many things to think about, that I would never have considered before my accident,” she said. “It’s all about getting to a point where you can live independently and having the WashPod has certainly given me a head start in feeling I can do things for myself.”

“Life does not end with spinal cord injury,” she says. “It is the beginning of a new life – a new normal life.”

WashPod - a mobile disabled bathroom

WashPod is a mobile, fully accessible washroom that will help keep you at home if you’re disabled or elderly. Life can turn on a sixpence and old age comes to us all but WashPod has been designed by architects who specialise in disability and accessibility. It is endorsed by occupational therapists and case managers.

If you’re elderly or disabled, being able to live in your own home becomes a real issue if you no longer have access to washing and toilet facilities but this unique, new ‘pod’ that can be erected in as little as a day, can help keep you in your own home, rather than a prolonged hospital stay or an early move to an expensive care home.

WashPods are either positioned externally in the garden or erected within an existing, reception or dining room that can be made available for the purpose. There’s even a mini WashPod model that can fit into smaller rooms while still providing wheelchair access and hoist options.

Both internal and external options give a less able person dignity until more suitable arrangements can be made, without significant disruption and stress to the family home.
