Newborn nappy output
Wet nappies:
Day 1 = 1 wet nappy
Day 2 = 2 wet nappies
Day 3 = 3 wet nappies
Day 4 = 4 wet nappies
Day 5 = 5 wet nappies
Day 6 = 6+ wet nappies
and onwards
Dirty nappies:
At least 2 or preferably more dirty nappies a day. They should gradually lighten in colour moving from black sticky meconium poos on day one to mustard yellow, chicken korma sauce around day 5 - 6 and onwards.
What goes in must come out. Good nappy output indicates good milk intake.
Some variation in colour is ok. Some green nappies can be normal if everything else is OK.
Once baby is around 6 weeks of age, it is OK for them not to poo every day. They like to save it all up and do it all in one go, especially when they are wearing a lovely outfit! Up until this age if babies are not pooing every day it is a red flag for poor milk intake so please seek some support to check everything is ok.

I am frequently being asked whether providing breastfeeding support virtually is as effective as providing this face to face.

Feedback that I have had from mothers I have supported recently is that it is!!

During a virtual consultation I can still undertake a feeding assessment. I can still observe you feeding your baby and provide you with verbal guidance and show you position options and techniques (as necessary). I can still work in partnership with you to create a feeding plan that will support you and help you to achieve your feeding goals.

Consultations usually last about 60 minutes and I will call you a week after the consultation to see how feeding is going.

You can either email me or send me a message on Messenger to let me know what has been happening in your breastfeeding journey so far and to find out how I could help you and your baby.

[EDITED: THANK YOU ALL for the amazing response!
The pilot project is now full;
we hope that it will be very successful and will be funded to roll out nationwide in future!]

Parents, we need you!
We urgently need 1,000 mums and dads of babies under the age of 12 months to trial an NHS-funded support package during the Covid-19 crisis.

If you’re expecting or have given birth in the past year we will provide you with expert support on sleep, feeding, mental health, and more. You’ll have access to one-to-one chat support with expert practitioners so you can ask a question at any time, small personalised group chats, access to video consultations with breastfeeding and child sleep consultants, and unlimited online exercise sessions which are safe, fun and effective.

We’re working alongside Peppy Parenthood and NCT and our goal is to make the platform available throughout the crisis, following an initial two-week trial. This trial is for parents in England.

If you are interested in or know someone who would benefit from the trial, complete this short survey.

LCGB is delighted to announce that, with Peppy Parenthood and NCT, we are part of a winning solution in the NHSX challenge! With support from NHSX, the Department of Health and Social Care, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, PUBLIC, and the AHSN Network.

LCGB and NCT perinatal and breastfeeding specialists will be supporting new parents who are isolated at home, via Peppy's innovative digital platform.

The two week trial will support 1000 parents in England with life with a new baby. Parents will join a small chat group led by an experienced perinatal practitioner from LCGB or NCT, and can be referred for specialist one to one support with feeding or sleep. The project will also provide mental health support and fun, safe exercises.

Now that new families are so isolated at home, this app will bring skilled and expert support safely right into their homes.
