We’re fairly quiet on social media these days, preferring to get out and meet as many of you in person as possible, but we feel this needs to be said!!
Recently our newsfeed has been full of “helpful” posts about what to do if you’re on your own and suspect you’re having a heart attack! Ringing any bells? Have you seen it? Maybe even shared it??
We’re here to say that there is no medical evidence that coughing helps in this situation. A heart attack is not a blockage that can be shifted so this viral bit of nonsense is quite scary!
If you suspect you are having a heart attack, phone 999. Do not attempt to drive yourself anywhere. If there are no allergies, you can chew up to 325 milligrams of aspirin if available and follow the instructions given to you by the trained professionals on the end of the phone!
Social media can be brilliant but misinformation can travel and we’re pretty sure Alexa has never been on one of our courses!

We were very happy to be asked to come and help two groups of cubs learn Firsr Aid for their badge. The children really embraced learning new skills and now know more than over 50% of UK adults!

A Sunday spent running a Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work course in the comfort of someone’s home-what could be better?

4 days at 2 different local nurseries, training 18 staff in life saving level 3 Paediatric First Aid.
These two nurseries have both come back to us for all their training needs multiple times and we’re truly grateful for their loyalty.
We recently had another local nursery approach us and, after we quoted, they informed us that they could find training from a huge national company for £10 less-Ouch!! Absolutely they could, this company employs freelancers so can charge less as they have no overheads, they also don’t give out the little treats we do or care anywhere near as much! We are a local business and we want to know we have done the best possible job with our training so that clients come back time and again. These comments on the post course questionnaire are worth more than their weight in gold for us!

So, it happens to the best of us!!
As the temperature drops, I felt it was time to dig out my trusty hot water bottle. I didn’t check the printed expiry date on the neck of it (Strike 1) , didn’t check it for signs of deterioration (Strike2) andI filled it with water straight from the kettle (that’s strike 3)
Obviously, where it had been shoved in a cupboard for the last few months, the plastic had perished and I ended up with boiling water all over my leg!
Thank goodness, I’ve had excellent training in the treatment of burns so I whipped my trousers off immediately (sadly, no pictures!!) and immersed the area in tepid running water for 20 minutes. I then applied two of my essential First Aid items: a burns dressing and clingfilm and finished my glass of wine (not part of the treatment officially!)
The result -no marks at all and one slightly sheepish First Aid instructor!

Ticks are rife at the moment and if not noticed and removed properly you can contract a life long disease called lime disease. Please always use a tick remover (from the vets or Amazon) to remove the tick efficiently as if any part of the tick remains it could cause and infection.
