Tip of the day 🙏 When you hear a comment against yourself or those close to you which is insulting or doesn’t reflect your experience, just smile. They are offering an incorrect perspective, showing their lack of knowledge and experience and furthermore they are ego driven. The more you let go the faster you’ll get to where you need to be.

Wishing everyone I know and those I don’t! A very happy, healthy and prosperous new year. It’s not the digits which matter - it’s the present moment that counts. Make more present moments that count!

To all those I’ve met, all the challenges I have faced, all the successes this year. I am grateful for all of them. Shaping ourselves and preparing our resilience gives insight to more understanding, more service to others, a greater cognitive clarity to those who struggle, and more compassion on those who need the support through kindness, teachings, and connections.

This year has taught me that growth in and of itself is nothing! The application and direction where that energy is spent in service of others has helped me remap my thinking and has enabled more people to have the support they need.

I am grateful for all the opportunities and connections I have made through the year, throughout my practices and throughout my life.

I give thanks for all those who I have met, short and long term friendships, and those who I’ve yet to meet.

I’ve learnt to hug that little bit longer, smile that little bit extra and breathe that bit deeper - and connect.

19/04/2023

The circadian rhythm is a natural, 24-hour cycle that regulates various biological processes in the body, including sleep-wake cycles, hormone production, and metabolism. One crucial aspect of the circadian rhythm is the nighttime phase, which is when the body undergoes a process called "cleaning" or "cleansing."

In this guide, we will explore the nighttime circadian rhythm and how the body cleanses the brain and organs during sleep.

Nighttime Circadian Rhythm:

The nighttime phase of the circadian rhythm is characterized by a decrease in activity and an increase in melatonin production, which is a hormone that helps regulate sleep. The body temperature also drops during this phase, which helps promote sleep.

During the nighttime phase, the body undergoes several important processes, including:

Memory Consolidation:
During sleep, the brain consolidates memories and processes information from the day. This is essential for learning and cognitive function.

Hormone Regulation:
The nighttime phase is also when the body regulates the production of various hormones, including growth hormone and cortisol.

Cellular Repair:
During sleep, the body repairs and regenerates cells and tissues, which is crucial for maintaining overall health and well-being.

Body Cleansing During Sleep:

In addition to these essential processes, the nighttime phase is also when the body undergoes a process called "cleaning" or "cleansing." This process involves the removal of waste products and toxins from the brain and organs.

The brain has a unique system called the glymphatic system, which is responsible for removing waste products and toxins from the brain. During sleep, the glymphatic system becomes more active and works to flush out waste products, including beta-amyloid, which is a protein that is associated with Alzheimer's disease.

In addition to the glymphatic system, the liver also plays a crucial role in cleansing the body during sleep. The liver processes and eliminates toxins from the body, which is essential for maintaining overall health.

Conclusion:

The nighttime circadian rhythm is a crucial aspect of overall health and well-being. During this phase, the body undergoes essential processes, including memory consolidation, hormone regulation, and cellular repair. It is also when the body cleanses the brain and organs, removing waste products and toxins that can have a detrimental effect on health if left unchecked. Ensuring adequate and quality sleep is crucial for supporting the nighttime circadian rhythm and allowing the body to undergo these essential processes.

Intermittent fasting (IF) is a popular dietary strategy that involves alternating periods of fasting and eating. It has been shown to have several health benefits, including improved metabolic health, weight loss, and reduced inflammation. In this guide, we will explore how intermittent fasting affects mitochondrial health and hormone health.

Mitochondrial health:

Mitochondria are the powerhouses of our cells, responsible for producing ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is the primary energy source for our bodies. Mitochondrial dysfunction has been linked to several health problems, including obesity, insulin resistance, and neurodegenerative diseases. Intermittent fasting has been shown to improve mitochondrial health in several ways:

Increased autophagy: Autophagy is a process by which the body clears out damaged or dysfunctional cells and cellular components, including mitochondria. Intermittent fasting has been shown to increase autophagy, which can help clear out damaged mitochondria and improve mitochondrial function.

Increased mitochondrial biogenesis: Mitochondrial biogenesis is the process by which new mitochondria are produced. Intermittent fasting has been shown to increase mitochondrial biogenesis, which can help improve mitochondrial function and increase energy production.

Improved mitochondrial function: Intermittent fasting has been shown to improve mitochondrial function, including increased ATP production and improved oxidative capacity.

Overall, intermittent fasting can help improve mitochondrial health by increasing autophagy, mitochondrial biogenesis, and improving mitochondrial function.

Hormone health:

Intermittent fasting has also been shown to have several positive effects on hormone health. Hormones play a crucial role in regulating many bodily functions, including metabolism, energy production, and growth. Here are some of the ways intermittent fasting can affect hormone health:

Increased insulin sensitivity: Insulin is a hormone that regulates blood sugar levels. Intermittent fasting has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity, which can help improve blood sugar control and reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Increased growth hormone: Growth hormone is a hormone that stimulates growth and cell regeneration. Intermittent fasting has been shown to increase growth hormone levels, which can help improve muscle growth and repair.

Reduced inflammation: Inflammation is a natural response by the body to injury or infection. However, chronic inflammation has been linked to several health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Intermittent fasting has been shown to reduce inflammation levels in the body, which can help improve overall health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

Overall, intermittent fasting can have several positive effects on hormone health, including increased insulin sensitivity, increased growth hormone levels, and reduced inflammation.

Conclusion:

Intermittent fasting can have several positive effects on mitochondrial health and hormone health. It can improve mitochondrial function, increase autophagy and mitochondrial biogenesis, increase insulin sensitivity, increase growth hormone levels, and reduce inflammation. However, it is important to note that intermittent fasting may not be suitable for everyone, particularly those with certain health conditions.
