Where To Start & What To Prioritise On Your Journey…

The world of health and fitness is an absolute minefield full of amazing content and also a load of… s**t lol

Which genuinely makes it hard for a lot of people to get the results that they want in the best, most enjoyable and safest way possible!

Here are a few things I would focus on right now If I was starting from the absolute beginning:

Nutrition 🥙

- Keep a food diary for the first 7 days of your journey. At the end of the 7 days, analyse the good and the bad of whats been going on. Make small and sustainable changes to your nutrition that are going to give you the best value.
- When it comes to water simply aim for 2-3 litres per day to start off with.
- Consume a good amount of fruit and vegetables each day to provide you with the amazing benefits that micronutrients bring.

Exercise 🏋️‍♂️🧘‍♀️

- Get outside and walk! Simple but effective. Great for the body and the mind.
- Work out a routine of exercise that suits what you like and your lifestyle. Going from zero to 5 intense days per week rarely works out for people. Start off with a couple of times per week building up the intensity and volume gradually.
- Make sure you warm up and mobilise properly. An area that is so often ignored by most but one that you will regret as you get older, start training more or if injuries crop up.

Mindset & Habits 🧠

- Set yourself targets and goals. Whether it’s weekly, monthly or an event of some sorts. You will get a lot out of having a goal and something meaningful being a driving force behind getting things done.
- Exercise even when you don’t want to. Going and getting done any form of working out even if it’s lower intensity will give you much more benefits than sitting on the sofa doing nothing.
- Building habits around getting good sleep is essential in my opinion. Build good habits around this and everything around your recovery, performance, cognitive abilities etc will all improve.

You are never going to find the “right time” to make a change 👀

I have heard people say this so many times over the last 13 years and I’m sure other PT’s have as well.

People who are delaying finally sorting their health out because they need to find the right time to get started….

They don’t have the time/need to find the time yet you see them binging Netflix series or out socialising all the time…

You are never going to progress to the fitness goals that you want, sort health issues out or feel better about your body if you aren’t going to put time aside to make the change thats needed.

“Finding the right time” isn’t going to be the answer to all of your problems because let’s face it, YOU NEVER FIND THE TIME.

You need to make the time.

30 minutes per day where you focus on just yourself and absolutely no one else.

Just 2% of your entire day committed to your long term health is absolutely nothing.

That can be running, walking the dog, swimming, going to the gym, football or any one of lots of other options available.

The reason why I think this post is important right now is because you probably made yourself promises or commitments at the start of 2024 which haven’t happened as you haven’t prioritised them…

We are entering 2025 in just over 2 months.

Don’t let that be the case again next year!

Make yourself a promise and commit to a healthier, more energised and confident future version of you.

Our Story

Urban Training PT was created in early 2011 with the aim of helping people achieve what they didn’t think was possible with their health, fitness, and body shape. 7 years on it has developed into a group of 4 excellent coaches who all share a passion to help as many people as possible to improve their health, well being and general lifestyle!

Throughout the years, we have helped people achieve several different goals; fat loss, lean muscle gain, basic weight lifting techniques, Olympic lifting, fitness modelling competitions, plus many more. One of our main philosophies has always been that every single journey should be enjoyable and sustainable in a way that the individual can continue to practise it for the remainder of their life. Throughout their journey we carefully monitor every intricate detail making sure we take the safest and most enjoyable route in pursuit of their goals. Just some of the many methods we use to ensure our clients are always progressing are tailored training programmes, tailored nutrition guidelines, and weekly progress check-ins.

Liam Holder initially created Urban Training as a self-employed Personal Trainer based at The Gym Group Birmingham City Centre, where he helped many of their members achieve goals they thought ere impossible. These achievements resulted in Liam being recognised as ‘National PT of The Year 2016’ at the National Fitness Awards. Shortly after receiving this distinguished award he met Alex Broadbent and they joined forces to create a fantastic client community. This ever-growing community take part in regular group events, fitness-based activities around the UK, and between them encourage each other to achieve some incredible results!
