This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating every kind of mum — including those for whom today doesn’t feel easy.

Being a mum is often painted as joyful… but the truth is, it can also be overwhelming, exhausting, challenging and at times incredibly lonely. And when your child is struggling with their mental health, the weight you carry can feel even heavier.

If this resonates with you, please know: you’re not alone, and you don’t have to hold everything by yourself. Our Carer Family Support Team is here for mums (and dads) who are supporting a young person or a mature child through mental health challenges.

We offer a safe, understanding space to talk, connect, and get support. If you need someone to talk to or want to know more about our carers support services, reach out jamiuk.org/carers

This Pesach, please help us support more people like Debbie. 🌼

When Debbie first came to Jami, she felt her life was unravelling. Serious physical health challenges and the loss of the daily routine she relied on caused her mental health to deteriorate. Everyday tasks became overwhelming, and she felt anxious, uncertain and alone.

At Jami, we believe recovery looks different for everyone. Our person-centred mental health support helps people take small, steady steps towards rebuilding their lives.

But our services rely entirely on the generosity of people like you.

Your donation this Pesach will help ensure that no one in our community has to face mental illness alone — and that Jami can be there every step of the way.

Please donate today: jamiuk.org/pesach/ or call 📞 Or call 020 8922 2600

University Mental Health Day: You’re Not Alone.

Student life can seem like an almost endless opportunity for socialising. It feels as though there’s something for everyone from grabbing a coffee in the SU, chatting with course mates and housemates, to club nights, events, societies, student government and volunteering.
And yet, students are increasingly becoming one of the loneliest populations in the UK.
Loneliness can affect anyone, and it can lead to low mood, increased anxiety, and a drop in self‑esteem. Most of us will feel lonely at some point — it’s completely normal.
But normal doesn’t mean you have to struggle alone.
💬 If you're finding things difficult, support is here.
Jami is here for you, and so are a range of organisations ready to support your wellbeing and help you navigate life on campus.

This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the theme “Give to Gain” by recognising the inspiring women who share their expertise and leadership to strengthen our community.

Dr Abigail Swerdlow MRCPsych, a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at the Royal Free Hospital and Clinical Lead of the Royal Free CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Service, brings a wealth of clinical knowledge and leadership to her voluntary role as Trustee for Jami and Jewish Care.

Trained at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, Dr Swerdlow has held positions as a Fellow in Medical Education, an Honorary Lecturer, and completed a Leadership and Management Fellowship at the Royal College of Psychiatrists. A recipient of a Rising Star Award in Healthcare, she has also been involved with the UK Jewish Medical Association for over 15 years.

Since 2019, Abigail has been a Trustee of Jami and Chair of Jami’s Clinical Quality and Innovation Committee, where her expertise plays a vital role in helping us respond to the growing need for mental health support for people aged 11+ in our community who are living with mental illness and distress.

By giving her time, knowledge and leadership, Abigail helps ensure that our services continue to grow and adapt to meet the needs of those we support.

Thank you to dedicated trustees like Abigail whose commitment truly reflects the spirit of giving to gain. 💜

Huge thank you to Ladies Captain Sara Brett and her wonderful ladies committee at Hartsbourne Golf Club for hosting a beautiful Challah Bake 🥖✨

Recently appointed Young Jami Jewish Care Chair, Clark Norton delivered an inspiring welcome speech to more than 350 guests at last night’s Young Professionals Dinner.

“It’s not always easy being a young person in modern Britain,” Clark shared. “We all know people who struggle… we may even struggle ourselves. That’s why Jami is here — for every single one of us. Ensuring first-class mental health support for those in our community who need it most.”

He continued: “Jami provides one-to-one care, therapy sessions, advice, support for families, and so much more. With no government funding, the money we raise tonight is vital. Without it, we risk losing services like the incredible social enterprise café, Head Room, and many other essential programmes. That’s why I’m so proud Jami is part of Jewish Care.”

A huge thank you to everyone who supported this special evening and continues to champion mental health in our community. 🧡

Last night at the Young Professionals Dinner at The Londoner, Young Jami Jewish Care’s new Co-Vice Chair, Emilia Isaacs, addressed guests with a powerful reminder of the vital impact Jami makes in our community.

“Jami is a charity which supports people whose mental illness, distress and trauma can make everyday life a struggle. Their service helps anyone from age 11 onwards, and provides support throughout the duration of their lives. Jami reaches 3,000 young people and adults every year, providing hope through its life-changing services. Their support aids mental health recovery, provides transformative help for families caring for somebody with mental illness, and educates community leaders on how best to support and accommodate.

Yet, despite the importance of Jami’s mental health services, they receive no government funding. This means Jami must rely on voluntary donations to deliver these critical resources. And with more people each year seeking Jami’s support, and demand for its services rising, we need your support now more than ever before.”

If you didn’t get the chance to donate, you can still make a difference and support last night’s event: jewishcare.org/done-to-yp-dinner-2026

Jami was proud to contribute to the Safeguarding Forum, coordinated by the Jewish Leadership Council (JLC), delivering a two-hour training session for managers on:
Mental Health – What You Need to Know with around 18 leaders in the room from across our communal organisations — including JLC, Camp Simcha, Maccabi GB, United Synagogue, Arts Therapies for Children, UJS, Hand in Hand, Seed, and Norwood (and possibly Pikuach) — the session focused on practical, essential skills that every manager can develop.

We explored:
• The fundamentals of mental health support
• Creating psychological safety in the workplace
• Leading with compassion and confidence
A huge thank you to Edie, alongside Claudia Kitsberg (US) and Natasha Glass (JLC), for their leadership in chairing the Forum and for the invitation to facilitate such an important conversation.

It’s encouraging to see so many organisations prioritising mental health and safeguarding — building workplaces and communities where people feel supported, safe and able to thrive.🧡

We are the Mental Health service for our community.

For 30 years Jami has provided practical and emotional support for the mental health of the Jewish community. Jami’s vision is a Jewish community which accepts, acknowledges and understands mental illness. A community which is resilient and has the capacity and capability to be healthy. A community in which symptoms of mental illness are as recognisable as a heart attack and trigger an equally appropriate First Aid response. A community in which Parity of Esteem is a reality and an environment which helps, not hinders recovery.

We work with individuals, communities and organisations to help prevent mental illness from developing, improve early intervention and promote wellbeing.

We understand that everyone’s experience of mental illness is different. We provide practical and emotional support for everyone affected by a mental health problem, the person with the diagnosis, friend, relative or employer. This includes:

Supporting around 1,300 people at any one time and reaching thousands more through our community education
