Michael’s connection to Jami spanned more than three decades with Jami playing a central role in his life. Before he died, Michael chose to leave a gift in his Will so that others could receive the same support that helped him through some of his hardest moments.

His decision came from a place of deep appreciation. With the help of Jami’s Compeer befriending service, Michael formed a close friendship with volunteer Dave, who supported him through daily phone calls. That friendship became a vital part of Michael’s world.

When Michael passed away at the age of 85, the community turned out in force to honour him. His final message, read at his funeral, spoke of his gratitude for the way Jami had changed his life.

Michael’s legacy now allows us to continue changing lives in his honour. It means more people in our community can find connection, support and hope when they need it most.

If you are considering leaving a legacy, we offer a free Will service.

🎉 Mazel Tov to Zoe! 🎉

Zoe was recently awarded the ‘Best Newcomer’ at Jewish Care’s Betty & Aubrey Lynes Volunteer Awards.

Since joining us in February 2025, Zoe has become an essential part of the Head Room family, Jami’s social enterprise café in Golders Green.

She co-facilitates our weekly Walking Group, monthly Music Group, and Open Mic evenings—and has recently taken on the role of Community Befriender in the café.

Zoe’s gentle, calming presence makes a real difference. Participants often share how much they enjoy her company, her conversation, and the warmth she brings to every interaction.

Her unique blend of creativity, commitment, and sensitivity helps make our spaces feel welcoming, safe, and inclusive for everyone. Thanks to her incredible musical talent, the Music Group has truly flourished, and her reliability—always arriving early and ready to help—means our team knows they can count on her.

Zoe embodies everything we value in a volunteer, and we’re so thrilled to celebrate her. 🌟

Congratulations, Zoe — this recognition is so well deserved! 👏🏼

Wishing you all Shabbat Shalom. 🧡

🌟Since joining Jami in 2022, Taryn has become a true support and friend to two of our Compeer Befriender clients on their mental health journeys. Her patience, reliability and quiet dedication have made such a meaningful difference in their lives.

One of Taryn’s befriendees has cerebral palsy — she meets with him regularly to enjoy board games together and support him through everyday challenges. Her other befriendee came to Jami facing many difficulties, and through Taryn’s consistent encouragement, she has grown in confidence and independence. 💜

We’re so grateful for everything Taryn does — she’s a shining example of the power of connection and compassion.

We are delighted to share with you the great news that Adam Dawson MBE has been appointed Chair of Trustees at the National Holocaust Museum - a prestigious and meaningful role that reflects his unwavering dedication to community leadership and impactful causes.

As a result of this exciting new appointment, Adam will be stepping down from the Jewish Care Trustee Board and the Mental Health Committee in January, following nearly seven years of outstanding service, including five years as Chair of Jami.

Throughout his tenure, Adam has been a driving force behind transformative initiatives. He played a key role in the strategic review and the successful merger of Jewish Care and Jami and spearheaded the launch of the Child and Young Persons project - an initiative that now supports over 100 children and families and operates from three Jewish secondary schools.

While Adam transitions from his Board role, Jewish Care is delighted that he will remain actively involved with our work, continuing to lend his insight and passion to the organisation.

Reflecting on his journey, Adam shared: “This has been an amazing, invigorating, and incredible 7-year journey. While the job is never truly done, I feel now is the right time to step away and welcome new voices and ideas to the Jewish Care and Jami table. Refreshing charity Boards is vital to keeping our work dynamic and forward-thinking.”

Marcus Sperber, Chair of Jewish Care, added: ‘We are deeply grateful to Adam for his leadership and contribution to Jewish Care over the past seven years. His vision, energy and commitment have left a lasting mark on our community, and we are excited to see the impact he will have in his new role.”

Jewish Care and Jami extend heartfelt thanks to Adam Dawson MBE and wish him every success as he embarks on this inspiring new chapter.

We are the Mental Health service for our community.

For 30 years Jami has provided practical and emotional support for the mental health of the Jewish community. Jami’s vision is a Jewish community which accepts, acknowledges and understands mental illness. A community which is resilient and has the capacity and capability to be healthy. A community in which symptoms of mental illness are as recognisable as a heart attack and trigger an equally appropriate First Aid response. A community in which Parity of Esteem is a reality and an environment which helps, not hinders recovery.

We work with individuals, communities and organisations to help prevent mental illness from developing, improve early intervention and promote wellbeing.

We understand that everyone’s experience of mental illness is different. We provide practical and emotional support for everyone affected by a mental health problem, the person with the diagnosis, friend, relative or employer. This includes:

Supporting around 1,300 people at any one time and reaching thousands more through our community education
