I'm happy to be guiding a mindful body scan in this fundraiser challenge with Mindfulness Association.

Sign up and have a mindful start to 2026 by receiving a short practice each day to support The Everyone Project who enable teachers to run free mindfulness courses with people who might otherwise find it hard to access mindfulness.

I've been lucky so far to work with communities in collaboration with Pain Concern and Edinburgh Parkinson's Branch in this way.

We are also grateful for any standalone donations to the charity.
See post below for more details.

Please join us for the 31 Day Challenge to raise money for the Everyone Project!

New Year… January 2026… it might seem like a long way off yet, but we wanted to let you know about something special we have set up for the new year!

Starting on 1st January 2026, we are running a project with the Everyone Project Charity to help engage people in regular mindfulness practice. Each day, people who sign up to the 31-day challenge will receive an email which will contain a 10 to 15 minute meditation, led by a Mindfulness Association or Everyone Project teacher.

This is an excellent opportunity to start the new year on a mindful footing and to contribute to this wonderful charity.

The Everyone Project is committed to offering evidence based mindfulness courses, such as the eight week Mindfulness Based Living Course (MBLC) to people who are not otherwise able to access a mindfulness course.

In particular we want to help disadvantaged and isolated groups, and those living with multiple stressors. We do this because we are passionate about the power of Mindfulness to empower all in our society to flourish and achieve their true potential. Please click here to see the people who have been helped so far.

Just did this meditation - it's different to how I usually practice but I enjoyed it and found it held wisdom for being with pain rather than avoiding it or pushing it away. You might find it helpful if you're struggling and feeling overwhelmed with pain.

Mindfulness has helped me live better with chronic pain and a long-term illness, as well as bringing different perspectives on life and a deeper understanding of myself.

If you are curious, there is still time to sign up for a new 4-week online course with Pain Concern, starting on Tues 22nd July 6.30 - 8pm, that gives a good foundational introduction to mindfulness.

This course is built up of things I've found helpful from my training with Mindfulness Association and other teachers, and is backed up by research-based good practice.

Thanks to our funder, the Nancy Massie Charitable Trust, you can get a free place if you have an EH postcode.

There are many reasons for wanting to practice meditation.

Many come for individual reasons (stress, anxiety, burnout, grief – the list goes on) and whilst these things are important, we must remember that mindfulness is not about changing the external circumstances that cause us to suffer but changing our relationship to them so we reduce our suffering.

Many people can be put off mindfulness when they do a practice and when the bell rings they don’t feel a sense of immediate relaxation. To sustain our practice we must remind ourselves that mindfulness is not a relaxation technique. It is an approach to life that allows us to be present for all that life brings, all that it can throw at us.

Mindfulness is so much more than relaxation (although it is a nice side-effect!). Mindfulness is about developing resilience - but also common humanity and compassion - to help us manage and navigate life's challenges. And the biproduct of all this is a greater appreciation of the good in our life, the richness and depth of that which makes us feel happy and connected….and even more relaxed!

I feel blessed to have my own mindfulness and compassion practice which gives me permission to be a 'compassionate mess' (thanks to Rob Nairn for these words) and 'perfectly imperfect' while I am on the journey, and I love to share these practices with others.

I enjoyed facilitating an introduction to mindfulness retreat for Mindfulness Association with Jacky Seery in the peaceful surroundings of Kagyu Samye Ling where nature becomes a support for being more present in each moment. Highlights included the real sense of connection in the group, sitting by the river, and bringing in the night with Qigong Tai Chi under the stars and with owls hooting with Mike Pratt.
