Take a deep breath through your nose while counting to four. Feel it track down your throat and fill your diaphragm to the brim. Hold it for a moment, then slowly release it while counting to six .
How do you feel?
Our breath is deeply intertwined with our physical and mental wellbeing. Breathwork practitioner Sherien Ahmed calls it the "remote control" of the body.
“It takes us from that state of flight or flight into rest and digest, and we can do that automatically with our breath,” Sherien said. “We can change our heart rate. We can increase our immune system. We can help our digestive system. We can help our reproductive system. All by just focused and controlled breathing exercises.”
