Respiratory infections are more common during winter due to colder temperatures, increased time spent indoors, and closer contact with others, which makes viruses spread more easily. Smoking increases the risk and severity of these infections because it damages the lungs natural defence mechanisms. Smokers are more likely to develop complications and recovery can take longer. Quitting smoking not only reduces these risks but also improves overall lung health, making it easier for the body to fight infections during the winter months.
Get support and you will be more likely to quit and stay stopped.
