Anxiety is s**t.

I wouldn't wish it on anyone. If you have it or have had it then you know it can take over your day to day life - it gradually makes your world smaller and smaller.

Stress is about the here and now - anxiety is what if, what might be, the future unknown.

It's cyclical maybe you wake up without it!

But then you notice that you've woken without it, and you wonder if it will come today.. Then you wonder when.. and by now your heart rates gone up a little and you know that's a sign so it's coming.. so your heart rate rises more.. it's almost like you called it and invited it in.

You're not at fault.

It's your mind and your body doing what they're supposed to do activate the defense mechanism to keep you safe, they just have the wrong idea about what you need protection from.

And it feels like you call it on because you don't want it to happen, so you're looking out for it in an attempt to control it or in the hopes that you get a free pass this time.

So many things can cause anxiety.

GENERALISED Anxiety I'll cover another time (nutshell = it's where you don't know the cause).

Usually a combination of working on the thing that brings anxiety (public speaking, social situations, work meetings or presentations, driving etc.) and working on self esteem and confidence, how you feel about yourself - that's what really provides the support and tools to help you fully realise that you are able to deal with any variation of these scary things that make you anxious.

Four to twelve sessions of hypnosis usually sort out anxiety, and scoop up other insecurities along the way. It's powerful stuff.

Anyone else thoroughly underwhelmed by the New Year? I have already run out of steam - maybe all those posts I've been seeing, reminding us that we're still in the depths of Winter and don't have to go pelting after New Years Resolutions are spot on, after all, we've the whole year ahead and more. Long term change doesn't happen quickly and it isn't easy but it's always worth it. Consistency is the aim of the game.
.and it works for the bad as well as the good.. if you consistently neglect yourself, you end up burnt out and raw. Look at smoking, it builds up into lung cancer and heart disease.

So let's start small, so we can trust ourselves again. I mean small. Those who know me will laugh at what I mention next. One glass of water when you wake up. Any size glass, keep it realistic. Do it every day for a month. Tell yourself you will do it and stick to it. Being consistent will help you trust yourself again so as you add in more small good habits you'll believe yourself when you say you're going to do it.

Believing in yourself can make huge differences in your life and without it you'll see it's absence in the foundation of issues you might have, especially with self esteem and confidence. Creating healthy habits and breaking crappy ones. It's there in the foundations.

So start small, and learn to trust yourself again. Consistency.

Happy New Year

🌀 It wasn't written for you.

Well, it wasn't. It was written to be as general as possible and probably only makes suggestions to deal with the "symptoms" of the issue. Every person is an individual, of course there are similarities, but the differences outweigh these by a log shot. It simply wasn't written for you.

🌀 It doesn't focus on the real cause of your issue, only the superficial.

Quitting smoking is very rarely simply just stopping smoking, it's changing your social habits. It's changing how you cope with stress or unwind.
Losing weight is never simply eating less and moving more, it's unlearning habits of a lifetime that are linked with emotions and personal identity.

🌀 The way it was written doesn't sit right with your subconscious.

Maybe your subconscious prefers more visual language, maybe it prefers language that is more direct. Maybe it refuses to do what it's told and wants to be gently persuaded and shown exactly how it will benefit. Maybe it doesn't feel it's relevant to you, it's too vague. Maybe it's not vague enough!

🌀 There's no supporting thought.

Hypnotherapy is (should be) much more than going into trance after a quick chat about what you'd like to change. The therapy part is vital, it's talking therapy and is designed to get to the bottom of why you have the issue you're looking to change and help support the subconscious to see why changing the issue is a good thing.

It simply wasn't written for you.

✨ Are you sick of the well meaning people you love harping on about your smoking? Rolling their eyes, making small comments. Makes you feel shame - makes you not want to be around them - makes you feel like a failure for not quitting before.

✨ It's really done in two hours - it's not the sort of thing we hang about on. It's intense and intensive.

✨ If you're ready to quit - truly truly ready - 9 out of 10 ready - it'll change your life.

✨ The first hour is a deep dive into how you started smoking, why you kept on smoking, why you want to quit, how it's part of your identity - all of it. The more personal it is to you, the more your subconscious accepts and believes this will help to keep you safe.

✨ Hour two is the hypnosis itself - using everything that was talked about to make it true for you, make it relevant for you. Working with your subconscious to bring together the part of you that used to enjoy smoking and the part that wants a healthy vivacious future, to bring cooperation so the part of you that wants that wonderful future is the part that steers the ship from now on, acknowledging that any noticeable cravings are your body learning to live without ni****ne and what a wonderful positive position that is to be in.

✨ Let's go!

The face behind it all, I'm Rachel and I'm a hypnotherapist in Edinburgh, I'm usually quite modest but I'm comfortable saying that I'm very good at what I do. I think that's because I genuinely want to help and I make sure we get to the root cause of the issue (not as uncomfortable as it sounds!). I love being a hypnotherapist, if you fancy giving it a try give me a shout.

Our subconscious remembers absolutely everything! It's all stored away and organised. If we're struggling to move forward, or self sabotaging, and have no idea why - it's a good bet our subconscious knows!

Hypnosis allows us to get into the files our subconscious holds so we can change how we see and feel about past events and situations that are causing us problems in the here and now. If we can be more aware of them then we're able to prevent them from causing further trouble!
