Morning folks. There seems to have been some Facebook shenanigans and my account has been suspended (and probably been hacked beforehand) which means I’m unable to access it or messenger. But it’s all grand(ish) Instagram can still pull through posts to my business page - it’s a bit of a faff on but there’s not an awfy lot I can do about it. So for folks who usually get me via messenger, best to email instead (hello@susanlancaster.co.uk). And with that, I’m off to get good, strong coffee and head on off to my therapy space instead - a far more fulfilling experience than the nonsense of fb. Have a good one 🌼

Starting tomorrow! If you do need a bit of help de-fringing, you know what to do. And by that I mean come along for a soothing and remedial massage at Palmerston Place. I’m even bringing out the hardy old massage chair if you’re after a seated session for some swift realignment.

New beautiful blue velvet chair for the therapy room (cat not included). Alfie has been there since it was in process of being assembled and hasn’t left since. It’s a group effort folks.

August availability! So we’re nudging the edges of August, which means Edinburgh will quadruple in population as folk flock through for the Festival. It’s such a vibrant and wonderful time in the city, but it’s also pretty frenetic, full on and tiring, so grabbing a moment of peace and realignment can be just the thing. I’ll be available for a decent amount of time to soothe and de-niggle all the experiences the Fringe has to offer. Your backs, necks, shoulders, calves (Edinburgh is anything but flat) and likely whole selves will thank you. Booking is fairly straight forward through the website (link in bio). Be grand to see you.

Sometimes you just need a moment. It’s been full on of late. I looked around the therapy room and felt, well, ahhhh. From the gorgeous massage waxes (divine, utterly divine) and the ethically produced coconut oil for vegan folk, to the fairy lights on the old medical text bones, to the phrenology head from a time gone by, to the beautiful courtyard, to the wall art at the bottom of the steps that you’ll see if you pop over, it was a real feeling of contentment. The spider in the kitchen sink brought about a good sense of balance with an eek not an ahh. Happy Monday folks 💚

I went to see Everything Everywhere All at Once, which has one of my absolute favourite actors Michelle Yeoh at the Filmhouse] today. Absurdly hilariously divine. Go see it. I laughed out loud and may have covered my eyes once or twice. But for all the good reasons. Such a brilliant tonic to all the complex life stuff out there in this beautiful, messed up world.

Deeply saddened to hear that after the toughest of tough two years, Neal’s Yard Remedies Edinburgh have closed their doors. I practiced there from 2016 until late last year and I have to say, I met THE best humans there, some of my absolute favourites. Neal’s Yard Edinburgh had the heart and soul of a small business, and was a franchise rather than part of the bigger organisation. Which I think made it all the extra specials. The legacy and long term impacts of covid on small businesses is a long way from over. Thank you chaps, you are flipping amazing.

Why does this matter? 4000 people, largely women, accused and convicted of witchcraft just because they were somehow bothersome, for want of a better word. Seriously, listen the podcast - huge amounts of riveting info, fascinating
interviews and stark insight to glean a deeper window into the harsh reality of the times. The Witchcraft Act was barbaric even then. And it set and continued a tone to this present day. A bittersweet moment, where the state had issued a formal apology truly is historic.

Today, on International Women’s Day, let me share with you a phenomenal campaign with a pretty amazing podcast .of.scotland This is a campaign that was set up on IWD 2020 seeking justice for people (predominantly women) accused and convicted under the Witchcraft Act 1563-1736, usually paying the price with their lives. These were women who were perceived to be a threat or posed a difficulty to the patriarchy - single, land owners, wrong place wrong time, helpers, healers, herbalists, the list goes on. The scale of this injustice is stark, particularly in Scotland. Please do read more and listen to the podcast - heart breaking, galvanising and reverent to the women who suffered such heinous acts of violence. Let’s remember these women, our ancestors, and learn the bloody lessons. Because if not now, when.

A wee heads up. No therapeutic appointments available this week as I’ve scuppered my knee (technical term). I am, however, taking my own advice and resting, elevating, smothering in arnica and strapping it up whilst the soft tissues settle their nonsense. All going to plan, therapy spots back open from next Monday. I am taking this as the universe’s way of telling me I need a wee bit more rest. See you on the (next) flip side.

What a glorious space for the soul the Hebrides are. I’m now back from Raasay and Skye, wise as promised (it’s all relative, stick with me) and back to offering therapeutic sessions at Palmerston Place. Here’s a wee teaser of the previously mentioned pics I will likely share with you when you come in. When I say likely, I may mean definitely. We had all weather types you could imagine in the blink of an eye - whipping rain, gale force winds, hail stones, beaming sunshine and rainbows. My take home will be the soothing from the Sea of the Hebrides, in all her wildness and ferocity. It felt like home.

Incredibly sad news. Thich Nhat Hanh’s simple, profound teachings have been a gift to myself and so many others. With a heavy heart and deepest gratitude.

Posted • The International Plum Village Community of Engaged Buddhism announces that our beloved teacher Thich Nhat Hanh has passed away peacefully at Từ Hiếu Temple in Huế, Vietnam, at 00:00hrs on 22nd January, 2022, at the age of 95. We invite our global spiritual family to take a few moments to be still, to come back to our mindful breathing, as we together hold Thay in our hearts in peace and loving gratitude for all he has offered the world.

More official news will be coming shortly.

As is often the way, 11th hour festive opening times for your de-gnarling needs. Unless Omicron gets into the festive spirit and knackers things up (again) that is. And just because, a couple of pics for festive wholesomeness from me - I’ve not quite found the festive feeling, it’s been the longest of years and 2020 has been never ending (it also consumed 2021). I could just be wearisome of lockdown and all the vitriol being spilled on both sides of the Cov*d paradigm. Who knows? Not me, that’s for sure. That aside, I do wish love, peace and contentment your way, however you do or don’t celebrate this time of year. Much love from me to you 💚
