Lothian Centre for Inclusive Living LCiL is a person-led organisation supporting disabled people through the services we provide - enabling them to live as independently as possible.

The main aims of the Lothian Centre for Inclusive Living are:

Provide a range of services to support Independent Living, developed and managed by and for disabled people. Support the right for disabled people to live independently and take control of their own lives. Provide the opportunity for disabled people to further their own personal and professional development, including through peer support. Our peer support groups provide a safe space to connect with others through shared experiences with the aim to strengthen knowledge, skills and confidence in all aspects of Self-Directed Support (SDS) and available social care options.

The sessions are welcoming, relaxed and informal. We focus on bringing people together to discuss the aspects of SDS that matter to them.

I’m looking for a kind and reliable female personal assistant to provide companionship, personal care and light support to my wife, who has mobility difficulties following a stroke. She uses a tripod stick and a wheelchair.
The role includes attending regular group sessions, supporting with appointments, assisting with personal care needs (including continence care), and accompanying her on outings such as going for coffee or shopping.
This role is a 0-hour contract to cover holiday and sickness. The typical shifts to cover will be:
Monday: 9:00 am – 10:15 am and 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
– Supporting her to get ready for Seagrove
– Assisting with light housework in the afternoon
Thursday: 10:00 am – 1:00 pm
– Providing support while she attends group or one-to-one activities at Headways
Saturday, Wednesday, Sunday (Occasional)
– Offering companionship at home while I am out
Other Duties Include:
β€’ Support with appointments
β€’ Light assistance during outings
β€’ Personal care as required
Rate of pay is Β£12.87 per hour with a potential pay rise coming in the future.
Please note that, due to the nature of my wife’s needs, there may be occasions where work is required outside the usual schedule, such as for hospital appointments. We ask that you are comfortable with this flexibility, and we will always be considerate of your time and availability.
*Genuine Occupational Requirement (GOR):
Due to the personal and intimate nature of some aspects of the support required, it is a genuine occupational requirement that the personal assistant be female.

Ref SR LM Personal Assistant required for a 16 year old boy

We are looking for energetic, reliable, caring individuals to assist our 16
year old son who has Down’s Syndrome & ASD.

He needs carers to take him out and about in the community to activities he enjoys and to engage with him when at home. Some regular activities might be going to the National Museum, the Cinema, or swimming.

The hours will usually be on weekends with more hours available in school holidays (Tues/Wed/Thurs particularly.)

Overnight shifts are also available.
ie Saturday mornings 9.30/10am - 1.30/2pm, occasional Friday afternoons 2:00-4pm.

The offer is for 4-6 hours per week at a minimum.

The rate of pay is Β£15.87 per hour.

Experience of working with or caring for a person with learning disabilities, Autism and/or complex needs is required.

Experience of working with children is essential – Applicants with no experience will not be considered.

Applicants will be PVG scheme members or willing to join the scheme.

References will be required.

Start date is as soon as possible post interview for the successful applicant, subject to reference/ PVG checks.

Free 12 week British Sign Language (BSL) Course for people with hearing loss.

Join a community of hard of hearing/deafened learners and learn BSL skills in a safe and supportive environment with an experienced Deaf Tutor.

Dates: Tuesday 21 April to Tuesday 7 July 2026.
