"Step into Health –Have a Little Less and Feel a Lot Better"

Heart of Midlothian is delighted to announce a fun new health initiative to support men and women over the age of 50.

As we get older, our bodies can be more prone to illness, so it’s important to build in new routines to keep healthy and to understand the impact that lifestyle can have on our overall wellbeing.

Step into Health is a fun, social and life-changing 12-week *free* course designed to support over 50s, for men & women, that combines the enjoyment of walking football or walking netball with easy, practical guidance to help you drink a little less and feel a lot better. Don’t worry if you’ve not played since your schooldays, our sessions are designed to ease you back into being a bit more active and are suitable for all levels of fitness. We are delighted that Netball Scotland will be partnering with us throughout and we look forward to offering these new sessions in what is a rapidly growing sport for over 50s.

Each week, you’ll enjoy gentle, inclusive exercise, learn simple ways to boost your wellbeing, and get friendly support to make small lifestyle changes that really last. No pressure, no lectures – just movement, fun, and proven tips from our partners at Drinkaware to help you feel healthier, sleep better, and have more energy. We will keep track of the changes you are making and show you how drinking just a little less can have a big impact on your overall wellbeing.

Join us in the New Year to move more, connect more, and live better – one small step at a time. The first course will begin in January 2026, with more taking place throughout the year. Would you like to find out how you might benefit or do you know anyone who it might benefit? Register your interest here.

Continuity is key

At the Braids Medical Practice, we really value continuity of care with our patients, which means seeing the same doctor for as many of your appointments as possible and having a doctor who takes overall responsibility for your care.

We know that this is really important for patients too, as it means not having to repeat your story and having a doctor that you can build a relationship and trust with. There is also evidence of real benefits to your health by promoting good continuity of care between doctors and patients.

Research shows that with good continuity of care, patients are:

• More satisfied and feel that they have good quality of care
• More likely to have a good relationship with their doctor
• Less likely to go to hospital or A&E as an emergency
• More likely to take positive steps to look after their own health
• More likely to live longer

Sometimes, waiting an extra few days to speak to or see 'your doctor', who knows you well and knows what is going on is the best thing for your health.
So please think... Do I have to be seen today by a different doctor? Do I need to speak about those results urgently with someone new?
Or would it be better to wait to see my doctor who knows me well instead?

We will always flag up if results are urgent and need a discussion as soon as possible, so if the reception team advise that the doctor thinks it's OK to wait to see them specifically, please be guided by them.
