In our latest episode of Clinical Conversations, Dr Kat Ralston speaks with Dr Jane Rimer about a challenging clinical case that took an unexpected turn.

Together they explore the value of reflective practice and the systems that help clinicians maintain safe, effective care. They also discuss how to reduce the sense of isolation that can arise when navigating complaints, adverse event reviews, and legal processes — the inspiration behind the episode title, ‘Defence Against the Dark Arts’.

Climate change has seen the rate of heat-related deaths surge 23% since the 1990s, according to the newly released Report of The Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change 2025.

“Medical and health leaders and individual clinicians have an important role to play in both speaking out about how climate change is causing real harm to population health across the planet, and pressing governments not to go backwards but to accelerate investment to meet climate targets.” - Professor Andrew Elder, President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh
