We’re located at the top of Cockburn Street and here it is being built!

The Making of Cockburn Street

Work on the construction of Cockburn Street started in 1859 so this image is likely to date from then. The street was an ambitious short cut to the station from the High Street and was planned by the Edinburgh Railway Station Access Company. Originally the street was named Lord Cockburn Street after Henry Cockburn who had a keen eye for developing Edinburgh. The 'Lord' was dropped in the name a couple of years after the street was complete. Many ancient Closes were cut in two by the line of the street, Mary King's Close being one of them.

Reflexology is an ancient therapy that was practiced thousands of years ago by the Chinese and Egyptians. It is a therapy based on the theory that all the organs, glands and systems of the body have corresponding reflex points in the feet, so that they are like mini maps of the body. By stimulating these reflexes, a treatment can clear congestion in a particular area and maintain a healthy balance in mind and body. It is a holistic therapy which works on your feet to to help heal the whole person (mind, body and spirit) including emotional well-being and not just the prevailing symptoms.
