In my latest blog post, I discuss how taking Alexander lessons and learning the Alexander Technique can complement trauma therapy. I talk about some elements of best practice that an Alexander teacher aspires to in the context of any lesson, and in the self-help skills that they are teaching – and I discuss the ways in which they may mirror established trauma therapies:
• Establishing a safe environment;
• Coming to a quiet, yet alert, embodied presence;
• ‘Bottom up and top down’;
• ‘Where’ rather than ‘what’;
• Deepening sense of self;
• Developing greater agency;
• Building resilience
