Why celebrating small wins works:

When you celebrate a small wins such as trying a new recipe, going to the gym, completing a necessary task you don’t enjoy, or just getting out of bed on a tough day, your brain releases dopamine, the “feel-good” chemical.

Dopamine boosts your motivation, helps you feel more confident, and makes it easier to keep going. It’s like having a mini cheerleading squad. Celebrating the small stuff can motivate us to do a little bit more and encourages us to focus on our inner ally rather than the, often louder, inner critic.

No win is too small. Celebrate it however feels good for you: Give yourself a celebration dance or a medal ceremony or a quiet thank you. But do acknowledge it, and specially on the difficult days.

What wins (big or small!) are you celebrating?

I am so excited to now be offering Somatic Trauma Therapy!

Somatic trauma therapy is a body-centred approach designed to help us work through traumatic experiences that are stored in our bodies as tension and/or emotional responses. You may have heard of the fight or flight response or a freeze state; the aim of STT is to help us recognise and release what we are holding (whether we know what it is or not) and move out of fight or flight / freeze towards a more regulated nervous system, helping us feel safer in our own bodies and in our surroundings

Each of us responds differently to experiences and when we hold trauma in our bodies, we can stop recognising that we didn’t always feel or react the way we do. Somatic trauma therapy helps us foster a better sense of connection with our body by focusing on the physical sensations and emotions we feel. As we learn how our bodies respond, we become better able to identify the signals our bodies send and process the emotions we are feeling instead of suppressing them. You may come with specific things you want to work on, or you may approach it by simply letting your body reveal what it has been holding. Either way, we work together to uncover what your body is storing at a pace that is right for you.

When life feels heavy, it can be difficult to feel gratitude. But practicing gratitude brings a wealth of benefits to our lives in so many ways. And it doesn’t have to be big, new, expensive or special. We can be grateful for everyday things (in fact, sometimes starting with small, often overlooked things is a brilliant way to build gratitude).

What are you grateful for and how do you remind yourself to practice gratitude?

How is your week going? Better than expected? Average? Exhausting? What three words would you use to describe it and why?

And since we’re asking, what three words would you choose to invite in for the rest of the week?

We don’t talk enough about the maintenance side of self-care — the part that feels repetitive, quiet, even boring.

Drinking water. Showering.. Booking appointments. Moving your body. Saying no. Brushing your teeth even when you’re drained.

These aren’t glamorous — but they are essential. These form your non-negotiables — the mundane but essential tiny things that quietly keep you ticking over.

✨ So what can you do when self-care starts to feel dull?

– Recommit to your basics. Choose 2–3 non-negotiables. Simple, grounding, doable. Stick with them.

– Make space for joy - add in music, light, movement, or connection.

– Let it be imperfect. Boring doesn’t mean bad. It means consistent. And there is a lot of benefit to be found in that.

– Make a small but doable change. Walk a new route. Change your playlist. Light a candle while you stretch. Journal somewhere new.

Self-care isn’t always exciting or different. I iIt’s showing up for yourself in the small, unglamorous moments.

There are thousands of studies showing how self-compassion benefits us: reducing anxiety and depression, increasing motivation, building emotional balance and helping us care for others without suffering from burnout out to name just some.

Self-compassion isn’t about suppressing difficult emotion or fighting it by pretending we are fine. It’s about meeting ourselves where we are with kindness and care, in the way we do for others.

What would you do differently if you treated yourself as you would treat a friend who was struggling? Would your choice of words change? Your tone of voice? Your actions?

Pop your suggestions below and let’s start creating a self-compassion community.

Grounding Practice.

Sit for a moment. Breathe. Feel your feet on the ground, pushing them down a little. Look around and name some things you can see. Let your nervous system reset.

When we feel overwhelmed, we need a reset. Notice what happens in your body when you do this. Does your breathing change? Do you yawn, sigh or feel more ‘here’?

What does Joy bring to mind for you?

Does it feel like joy comes with big or unexpected events or can it be found it smaller, everyday things too?

It doesn’t always feel like joy is very accessible but if we take time to really savour small pockets of it, we start to find joy everywhere. Try making a list of simple things that bring you joy: perhaps a cup of coffee or tea, or a particular cup you use. Or maybe a favourite item of clothing and how it feels when you put it on. A story or a song you love. Think of all the small ways you can experience joy in your daily life.
