Tess Post- Granny Square Crochet

I’ve been playing with coloured wool this past month, using it as a lovely stress reliever while waiting for my first grandson to arrive.

I decided to stick entirely to wool from my stash. I started with a variegated ball and then chose about ten other colours that complemented it. In total, I made 42 centre circles, with around half of them using the variegated wool. For the final round, I almost always returned to the first colour. I worked in both double and single crochet (English terms), mixing patterns as I went. Every other row was single crochet. I don’t use written patterns because of my dyslexia, so I just make things up as I go along.

After sewing all the pieces together, I used up the leftover wool to go around the blanket, repeating the same patterns. It’s not quite long enough for a single bed, but it makes a beautiful lap blanket to curl up under on my sofa.

Tess Post

As part of our reorganisation at the centre, my art room has now moved downstairs! I took the opportunity to have a good clear-out of my art stash — though I still have plenty of creative treasures left. 🎨

We wanted to keep the flexibility of using the space as a group room, and Monika came up with the brilliant idea of hiding my art supplies behind curtains. The table is collapsible, and for now, while our two new rooms are still being finished, the space is overflowing with comfy chairs and plants. 🌿🪑

If you’d like to visit the centre to discuss room rentals, please get in touch. I’m also open to collaborative art projects — I’d love to hear from you! 😊

Monika Post - healing space
When we embarked on the journey of naming our beloved business, the word "healing" was the first that resonated deeply with us. But why healing? Because healing is an intricate process that unfolds within each of us, uniquely tailored to our individual experiences and needs. It can manifest in various forms—physical, emotional, or spiritual—acknowledging that we are all distinct and require different pathways to wellness.

As we contemplated our mission, the name "healing" felt increasingly appropriate, especially when we made the decision to diversify our offerings and invite a variety of skilled practitioners to join our space. With this expansion, we are thrilled to provide a comprehensive range of services to our clients in the Abbeyhill area. Our offerings now include traditional therapy, transformative hypnotherapy, soothing massage, and a spectrum of alternative therapies designed to support holistic well-being.

We envision our Centre as a nurturing sanctuary where individuals can embark on their healing journeys—each finding the guidance, support, and modalities that resonate with them personally. Our hope is that this space will become a vibrant hub of healing and transformation, fostering connections and promoting wellness throughout the community.

Monika Post : Two cultures working together?

When two worlds come together, something truly magical can unfold. I never thought I would work so closely with someone from a different culture, but life had other plans. The answer turned out to be yes. Not only did I find that answer, but I also discovered the beauty that emerges when cultures intertwine. How did this happen? Through in-depth conversations about our differences and recognizing the common threads that unite us. These meaningful exchanges broadened our horizons and allowed us to see things from new viewpoints. This deeper understanding forged a relationship that feels both strong and lasting.

Our doors are open to a variety of people from different backgrounds and cultures. We have had counselors who speak Spanish, French, Polish, and Romanian, enabling us to communicate effectively with a diverse community. We value the differences among individuals because we believe that people have unique needs and require tailored services to support their well-being.

Please let us know your thoughts about this matter. What do you think?

Tess Post - art journaling
Monika and I decided to collaborate on art journaling with a group. With her therapeutic background, we were able to guide people into exploring deeper emotions through creative expression. We experimented with a wide range of techniques — collage, origami, poetry, crayons, pastels, and pens. Together, we refined our approach: learning what questions to ask, how to help clients get the most out of the experience, and how to use art journaling as a way to become more mindful, more self-aware, and more open to creative exploration.

In 2019, we set up the Healing Therapy Centre and began running sessions throughout the autumn. Then Covid arrived. While I continued my work online with the charity in Dunfermline, we sadly had to close our Edinburgh doors for a while.

During that time, I started wondering how I could create a system people could use on their own — something that captured our techniques and showcased different ideas. That led me into researching art therapy and art journaling resources more deeply, planting the seeds for the next stage of our work.

Tess Post - Dyslexia and crochet snowmen

I learned crochet at primary school and it’s still one of my favourite things to do. I have to wear two paper face masks because the wool fibres affect my asthma. I can’t read a pattern, so I just look at what I want to make and play around with stitches and shapes until they work.

I am currently making crochet snow men Christmas decorations— each one is slightly different, which I love. The little snowmen are all wearing hats and scarves, and that gives me such joy. Looking at the photo, I realised they’re all different sizes, so I apologised in my post and blamed it on my dyslexia.

But really, I love that about them. It gives me so much freedom to explore — I don’t have to follow patterns, and I can create almost without thinking, just feeling and seeing as I go.

Monika loves my art making and has encouraged me to display it around the Healing Therapy Centre. I had been keeping most of it stored away in boxes. At first, I felt a bit too exposed having it all on show, but now I love how bright and colourful it makes the space. It complements Monika’s funky, eclectic interior design style beautifully.

Monika Post: Who are we? ( long post )
I'm Monika, and I’m a psychotherapist at the Healing Therapy Centre. This is my colleague, Teresa, though everyone calls her Tess. Together, we’ve established the Healing Therapy Centre with the goal of bringing together practitioners to support others on their healing journeys. Before the pandemic, we offered therapeutic art journaling sessions where Monika’s therapeutic expertise combined with Tess’s artistic talents created a rich group dynamic, helping individuals heal through artistic expression. Since then, we've experienced many changes—not just in ourselves, but also in our Centre. We’re excited to announce that we’re expanding by adding two new rooms, and we look forward to welcoming new practitioners who want to utilise our space and share their skills.

Please email us if you wish to arrange a visit to see if our space can meet your needs.
