It's Menopause Awareness Month 🌺
Our team recently attended an insightful webinar from Claire Callaghan, a Chartered Physiotherapist, exploring the connection between Perimenopause and Menopause and Musculoskeletal Health. To aid in increasing awareness, we wanted to share some knowledge on how closely the two are linked 💪✨
Menopause is when your periods stop due to lower hormone levels. Over 47 million women worldwide will enter menopause annually, usually between the ages of 45 and 55, but it can happen earlier. During menopause, changes in hormone levels can affect bone density, joint health, and muscle strength, often leading to stiffness, aches, or increased risk of injury.
Here’s what helps:
* Stay active with weight-bearing and resistance exercises
* Get plenty of rest, keep a regular sleep routine
* Eat a healthy diet
* Prioritise nutrition rich in calcium, vitamin D, and protein
* Stop smoking and cut down alcohol
* Relaxation exercises like yoga, tai chi or meditation
* Confiding in friends and family members who may be going through the same thing
