Capacity - what is your capacity to manage life, motherhood, intense period of stress/situations including COVID?

Basically your capacity to manage life is a like a cup - there is only so much space within it. It's not infinite.

In the cup there normal life stress, motherhood stress, then additional stress you're having to manage (possibly difficult birth/previous life trauma/someone being very ill, moving house etc) and now Covid stress.

These all fluctuate up and down.

When you reach the limit of your capacity - you become overwhelmed, anxious, frazzled, burned out, exhausted, shouty and horrible mums/wives or else completely shut down to the world around us. These are all signs that you've reached the limit.

What drives you to continue to keep filling that cup?

What drives you to continue to push yourself beyond your capacity?

After having worked in this area for so long and my own experience - my belief is it’s fear - it’s what you’re scared of.

* You’re scared if you say no to people that you’ll upset them - they won’t like you and so it impacts your boundaries, how much you take on, how quick you are to reply messages etc
* You’re scared of the unknown so you spend all your time trying to best guess all the worst cases to protect yourself
* You’re scared you’re not as good as others so you spend all your time pushing yourself on to be as good as everyone else but rarely understanding that they’re all feeling the same you causing a viscous cycle of pressure
* You’re scared you don’t fit in and that’s going back to the dawn of time where we needed to be accepted by our tribe to stay safe so it feels very unsafe not fitting in
* You’re scared you're not the perfect wife, mother, housekeeper, colleague, daughter, sister and friend so you end up going to EXCEPTIONAL lengths to be perfect and then end up in a pit of failure, failing to realise how amazing you actually are
* You’re scared of judgment and what others think of you as it's hugely frightening and threatening
And so much more....

It shows up in so many ways

* Exceptional lengths to do everything
* Doing far too much of things you hate and don’t enjoy
* Unable to ask for help and support
* Barely recognising and meeting your needs
* Ridiculous expectations of yourself
* High standard for everyone else around you
* Feeling guilty for every making time or investing in yourself
* Leading you to feel exhausted, anxious and frazzled

Overcome the Overload

Right now, my membership, Overcome the Overload is open to new members. It has been open for most of this year but I’ve realised I support best when I work with a consistent community who consciously choose to do the work and as such this membership is closing to new members tomorrow night at 9pm.

This membership is one of my favourite parts of everything I do. I literally bound upstairs to the group sessions and I really love the community and running an amazing group.

This membership is 18 months old and it’s evolved in that time to what it is now.

Here’s what you currently get in the membership:

* Group EFT sessions twice each week
* Monthly group coaching
* Live masterclass every second week
* Community group of amazing mums - (we’re moving over to Telegram because I want us to get off facebook!)
* Regular guest interviews
* Monthly 15 min call with me
* Library of resources

It costs £30 which is a complete bargain for all you get.

This is a great time to join us as we move into winter, lack of light, Christmas, potential more stress related to the pandemic and more.

You can join here - http://triciamurray.co.uk/overcome-the-overload/

Much love, Tricia ###

It is your human right to have choice in childbirth.
Socio-demographic characteristics SHOULD NEVER be a indicator of relative choice in birth.
NHS Lothian remains one of the last trusts in the UK to have not reinstated Homebirth.
WHY?
Good question.
The Scottish Government restrictions on homebirth were lifted when we moved into stage one of the lift on lockdown. As of yet we have been provided with no valid reason for the failure to reinstate this service.
Birth Choices Scotland is advocating for more transparency in our maternity services.
We are campaigning to uphold women’s right to choice and quality of care in pregnancy, birth and beyond. A pandemic does not change your human right, to choice in childbirth.
has set out a document with a step by step action process, for all women who feel they are being denied choice of birth. We will be discussing this and more in a next LIVE SESSION.

We have worked so hard behind the scenes and are so pleased to see that finally we have Homebirth back.

🥰🎉👏🏻Homebirths in Lothian to have NHS support again🥰🎉👏🏻

Homebirth is a topic really close to my heart. When I heard NHS Homebirth support was being suspended due to Covid-19, I felt I couldn’t sit by and do nothing. I knew there were people out there who had planned for nearly 9 months to have their baby at home and that was being taken away. I also thought it was a very knee jerk reaction given it’s safe to birth at home and surely even more so during a pandemic.

Under the wise guidance of and I set about finding out who was in charge of these decisions and what we could do to get the service reinstated. We wrote letters to the government, to NHS Lothian and most importantly we formed a group to encourage affected families to write to their MSP, to take control of their birth and ask that their basic right to birth somewhere they deemed safe was respected. Some would say we were being difficult women, I say sometimes being difficult is the only way to be heard.
It has now been confirmed that Homebirths will begin to be supported again by NHS Lothian from 1 June and I want to thank all the people who wrote emails and letters as its the many voices together that made the difference. I can’t wait to provide support in an environment that truly supports physiological birth and hope all other NHS Trusts follow suit as soon as possible.

Today starts the campaign of .

Pre Coronavirus times the number of families experiencing birth trauma was between 30-45% which is huge. A small number of those will develop PTSD. A number of us are hugely concerned this is going to increase rapidly given everything that’s happening right now in maternity services.

One of our volunteers did her PhD in this and as part of this did a systematic review. The results were that the care women got were one of the leading reasons that mums experienced trauma and that’s consistent with what’s reported in our groups.

It turns out, however, that midwives themselves are traumatised, stressed, harassed and overwhelmed and this is what may lead to them not being able to care in the way that they want.

There’s two vital things we need 1) supporting our brilliant midwives so they can give better care 2) Early intervention and APPROPRIATE trauma treatment of mums, partners and midwives/HCP.

We fully support this campaign.

are asking people to write to their MPs to ask that maternity care is ringfenced in line with RCM guidance and trauma prevention is considered now, and trauma treatment prioritised in the months to come.

They are also running two surveys so they can monitor the impact on maternity staff and parents to be

Please can you

- share the surveys (and complete if relevant to you)
- share our campaign (launching on Tuesday)
- consider joining in and send an email to your MP
