This week I am asking: how do I know when I am ready to share a session in the studio? This question might be something you are asking yourself if you have had a couple of blocks of 1:1 studio sessions, and you have started to consider duet sessions as an option for you.

Most people start off in the studio with 1:1 sessions with me; this allows me to fully assess your movement, your movement history, discuss your goals and devise a personalised plan.

But in time you might consider the option of a duet session, since this is a sociable way to practise Pilates, can introduce an element of learning from the teacher’s cues to individual bodies, learn to listen to each other’s springs, timing and movement rhythm and flow, it will keep your motivation levels high, and of course is a less expensive option going forward.

So how do you know when you are ready for duet sessions? The first thing we look for to know if someone is ready to move onto double sessions, is control of movement- carrying out precise movements without the need of too much teacher intervention; in addition to this we like to see that you no longer require the teacher to manipulate the springs or straps on the studio equipment; and finally, to be able to control the Breath well in time with your movements and your teacher’s cues as they come whilst you are moving. That is how you learn to move with flow, precision and control whilst you are breathing. These skills will afford you an element of independence in the studio, ensuring that you session can focus around moving you both forward rather than keep revisiting the basics.

With a new Friday morning slot opening up soon.

This 4-week course is designed for beginners and those new to
Pilates or those looking to restart Pilates after a long absence. We will cover the basic principles of Pilates and help you develop an understanding of the method.

These sessions are designed for 3 people maximum, and it will involve working on the Pilates apparatus: a combination of Towers, Mat, Magic Circle, Pre-Pilates and Standing exercises from the classical Pilates syllabus.

Conquer Gravity was designed with men in mind, who might think Pilates isn’t enough of a workout; but in fact what I learned is, everyone who comes, loves Conquer Gravity.

It burns up to 15% more calories per session than other forms of exercise and enables you to master your body, making you stronger and more confident.
Conquer Gravity was designed using principles of Pilates, calisthenics and suspension training to develop inner core, functional strength and improve flexibility, using your body weight as resistance.

If you haven’t tried it, why not use this Spring as your excuse to develop your precision, control and functional movement with Conquer Gravity!

The class happens every Monday at 7:45pm (55 minutes class), at the Baptist Church Hall.
