Medicine Anthropology Theory is an English-language, open-access journal that publishes scholarly articles, essays, reviews, and reports related to medical anthropology and science and technology studies. Origins
MAT (‘em-ay-tee’) is both a continuation and a departure from its predecessor, Medische Antropologie, which was published out of Amsterdam from 1989–2012. Like Medische Antropologie, MAT seeks to balance the larger field by foregrounding work by non-American scholars. Now based in both Amsterdam and Paris, MAT is supported by the University of Amsterdam and the Fondation Maison Des Sciences de l’Homme in Paris, as well as an expanded international advisory board. Review process
Scholarly articles undergo a double-blind peer review process, which typically takes twelve weeks from the time of submission. Please see our submission guidelines for more information on the kinds of contributions we seek. Publication schedule
We publish material on an ongoing basis. Three times a year (April, September and December) published material is paginated and grouped into an issue. Indexing and archiving
Upon the launch of the first issue in December 2014, the editors will submit the necessary paperwork to be assigned a new ISSN and begin the process of having the journal indexed or included by EBSCO, CrossRef, PubMed, and the Directory of Open Access Journals. Each article, review, think piece, and photo essay will be assigned a DOI. Please check back here as this webpage will be updated once each agency approves our request. Each issue will be archived using CLOCKSS. Sponsors
This open-access journal is supported by the University of Edinburgh and the ERC project DiaDev (PI, Alice Street).
