The solution to coping with sleep deprivation in postpartum is not necessarily giving up on your feeding goals, sleep training your baby from an early age, or forcing them to be independent too early.

The answer lies in proper education about what postpartum can look like, realistic expectations of this time and of babies, and having a strong community of support around you.

Comment HELP below and I’ll tell you how you can be truly prepared for postpartum, so you can focus on bonding with your baby and thriving in the early days.

And when I visited Kim and Jamie after their birth, they shared that preparing for their postpartum truly served them well.

🕯️ Lighting plays an important role in the dance of hormones in labour, both for the birth of the baby and for the birth of the placenta 🕯️

Bright lights are likely to hinder melatonin production in early labour, and to increase adrenaline which is not very helpful for active labour.

So consider your lighting options, and protect this aspect of your birth nest 🪹

I know you don’t have a “Postpartum Etiquette” manual, but if you did any of these things last time you visited a loved one who just had a baby, you’re already winning and I promise you’re deeply appreciated by the newborn family!

Let’s hold the whole family, as well as the new baby 🧡

Babies don’t need new onesies or toys. They need parents who are well, healthy, and supported.

And let’s be honest. New parents don’t need clutter. They need support that truly helps them heal, rest, and bond with their new baby.

If the parents are looked after, they’ll be in a much better place to support, raise and nurture their children.

So give what matters: nourishment, care, and presence 🌿

🍃 Here’s a reintroduction from me, since it’s been a while and there are quite a few new faces over here 🍃

🇵🇹➡️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I’m a Portuguese‑born doula who swapped the Atlantic for the Scottish landscapes 14 years ago

Since then I’ve built a life here with my fiery daughter and bright husband, two furry feline hot-water bottles, and a never‑ending stream of craft projects (yes, I always have at least two half‑finished creations on the go) 🧶🐾

Food is one of my love languages. I love trying new recipes and baking comfort into cakes, pies, tarts and biscuits 🍲✨

In the not-very-often moments when I’m not mothering, doulaing, homemaking or crafting, I’m lost in fantasy worlds, sipping tea or driving while diving into epic quests 📚🎧

After 7 years of walking alongside families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum, I’m reminded daily why I do this work: sovereignty, choice, and the courage to be vulnerable and strong.

If you’re navigating the beautiful chaos and transformation of trying to conceive, pregnancy, birth or postpartum, I’m here to listen, advocate, and help you feel heard and seen 🌱

Let’s craft a supportive space together, where every story is welcomed and every choice is respected.

Do you know about 🌸 Yoni Steaming 🌸?

Also known as vaginal steaming, this is an ancestral practice - historically practised across the globe and various cultures (including in Europe) - that supports menstrual health, fertility and postpartum healing.

🌿 For Fertility
Your womb deserves tenderness, time, and care. Yoni steaming can gently support circulation, warmth, and connection to your body’s natural rhythms. For those calling in a baby, steaming can be a way to release what no longer serves, help to clear the womb of old tissue, invite balance, and create a warm, nurturing environment for new life to take root ✨

🌸 For Postpartum Healing
After birth, the body holds the stories of strength, of release, of transformation. Yoni steaming can support postpartum healing by warming the womb, soothing tissues, and helping you feel grounded in your body again. It’s not just physical, it’s emotional and spiritual too, a way of honouring your birth journey while giving yourself the softness you so deeply deserve 🧡

This is sacred self-care; an invitation to slow down, to listen inward, and to nurture your womb with love and warmth.

I now offer guidance for steaming, and can facilitate it as part of the fertility and postpartum doula care I offer. Reach out to learn more 💌
