Today I’m starting a series I’ll be continuing into 2026; Building Your Birth Nest 🪺

Your birth environment matters. A space that helps you to feel safe and comfortable, both physically and emotionally, is crucial for your birth hormones to flow freely and naturally, and in so doing better supporting a physiological birth.

My aim is that the things shared in this series are simple, accessible things that can be used to build a cosy and safe birth nest, and that can be - for the most part - used in both a home and hospital environment.

🧡 Hope you enjoy it! 🧡

Hi, I’m Sara, a preconception, prenatal, birth and postnatal doula, and I’m spending the next 14 days sharing the heart of my work so you can understand what I do and why it matters.

Okay, I actually love being the one to tell you this ☺️

Breast size ≠ milk supply. Your body is capable and powerful. Breast size is mostly fat tissue, not milk-making tissue, so it doesn’t determine supply.

So if you’re a member of the itty bitty tiddy club, you don’t have to worry about not making enough milk for your baby on that account. And if you’re a big tiddy gang member, you also don’t need to worry about oversupply based on your bra size!

Big, small, in-between… all breasts can make amazing milk 🥛

And here’s why…

🛌 Tucking a family in bed after birth is like seeing the family reach a safe harbour after the long and deep journey of preparing for and birthing their baby. It’s the end of that journey and the start of their lives with their new baby

🤱 Breastfeeding/chestfeeding should never be painful (uncomfortable at the start, maybe, but not painful), and a painless latch brings joy, courage and renewed hope at the start of breastfeeding/chestfeeding

🫠 The body speaks when a heart is held and tended to. The shoulders melt, the face softens, and the whole nervous system is given a chance to start feeling safe again

🍲 Food delivered to your door is a lifeline that goes a very long way to help you keep sane and healthy in early postpartum, and it feeds the spirit too to know you’re being looked after by your community

🧡 The oxytocin high is real and enduring for the first hours and even days after a happy birth, and it’s electrifying!

💧When the tears are flowing I know the person in front of me is feeling safe enough to let go of all that’s been pent-up inside, and that’s often when the heart can start healing

🪞 Vulnerability in a group allows the people in it to bond, to realise they are not alone, and to truly show up for themselves and each other

✌️I feel I don’t even need to explain this one, but owning the power, the autonomy, the strength and utter miracle that is birthing a baby is going to remind that mother/birthing parent and their family of the resilience that lies within, and that will see them through challenging times in their lives as parents

Hi, I’m Sara, a preconception, prenatal, birth and postnatal doula, and I’m spending the next 17 days sharing the heart of my work so you can understand what I do and why it matters.

And here’s why I suggest you 🙉

I know… the argument is that it will help your labour to “progress” and go quicker. The truth is though; you’re more likely to tire yourself out (and in doing so possibly making labour longer) than to bring things on.

You’ll need your energy later on - so I’d suggest you go gently.
🧡 Rest
🧡 Eat
🧡 Keep hydrated
🧡 Do something that nourishes your soul
🧡 Feather your nest and cosy in
Ignore labour for as long as you can, and until it *demands* your attention.

Or, simply put and in the wise words of , “never chase your labour” 🧡

Trust labour and its sacred unfurling - however it presents itself to you 🌿

🌱 Here are five boundaries that guide how I support families as their doula… 🌱

1. Your intuition as a mother or birthing parent is sacred. I listen to it - really listen - and honour it.

2. I don’t give advice or tell you what to do. I may make suggestions, and I share with you information and resources to support informed decision-making. I hold space for you so that you can find the option that feels right to *you*.

3. Your heart and your emotions in preconception, pregnancy, birth and postpartum matter to me just as much as what might be going on in your body. They are often linked and I don’t separate them. I honour them both.

4. My starting place is always to “be” rather than to “do”. To be present and to listen, especially in birth, and to only offer to do something if either of us feels it’s needed, always tailored to you and where you are at that point.

5. I don’t generalise. Every person and every family is different, with different and individual stories, circumstances, cultures and preferences. I respect who you are and support you as unique individuals.

✨ I honour these boundaries so I can honour you ✨

Even the softest bloom knows how to rise, stretching past the should’s and shouldn’ts, past the quiet cages of self-doubt.

There’s a wild and sacred wisdom in choosing to unfurl anyway, to let yourself be seen, to grow in your own rhythm, to flourish simply because you were always meant to ✨

✨ A Mother Blessing is a sacred pause. A circle of love, intention, and support as you prepare to birth your baby and step into motherhood or parenthood 🌿

For this mama, each strand of yarn woven into this mandala carried the wishes, prayers, and affirmations of her circle of community, shared with her during her Mother Blessing.

This mama took her mandala to her birth space, as a beautiful reminder that she’s held, supported, and powerful 💫

Do you know about 🌸 Yoni Steaming 🌸?

Also known as vaginal steaming, this is an ancestral practice - historically practised across the globe and various cultures (including in Europe) - that supports menstrual health, fertility and postpartum healing.

🌿 For Fertility
Your womb deserves tenderness, time, and care. Yoni steaming can gently support circulation, warmth, and connection to your body’s natural rhythms. For those calling in a baby, steaming can be a way to release what no longer serves, help to clear the womb of old tissue, invite balance, and create a warm, nurturing environment for new life to take root ✨

🌸 For Postpartum Healing
After birth, the body holds the stories of strength, of release, of transformation. Yoni steaming can support postpartum healing by warming the womb, soothing tissues, and helping you feel grounded in your body again. It’s not just physical, it’s emotional and spiritual too, a way of honouring your birth journey while giving yourself the softness you so deeply deserve 🧡

This is sacred self-care; an invitation to slow down, to listen inward, and to nurture your womb with love and warmth.

I now offer guidance for steaming, and can facilitate it as part of the fertility and postpartum doula care I offer. Reach out to learn more 💌
