💙 A Fond Farewell to Dr Hannah Benbow 💙

Last week we said a heartfelt goodbye to the wonderful Dr Hannah Benbow, who has been an invaluable part of the Pets 1st team since 2019.

After graduating from Cambridge University in 2017 with degrees in Veterinary Medicine and Zoology, Hannah brought her passion, knowledge and compassion to Pets1st, where she quickly became a much-loved member of our clinical team. Hannah has always loved the variety of both medical and surgical work – and of course, spending her lunch breaks cuddling patients post-op 🐶🐱

Hannah has been such a credit to Pets1st, and we are incredibly grateful for everything she has given to our team, our clients and their pets. While we will miss her greatly, we wish her nothing but happiness and success in her next chapter. 🤍

🎉🐾 New Year’s Eve Pet Safety Tips! 🐾🎉

As we countdown to 2026, don’t forget to keep your furry friends safe and comfortable during the celebrations! ❤️ Here are a few quick tips:

✨ Fireworks can be scary — Create a cosy, quiet space indoors for your pet and keep doors/windows closed.
🎶 Background noise helps — Pop the TV or some calming music on to help drown out the bangs.
🪑 Safe space — Let them hide if they want to! Snug dens and blankets help pets feel secure.
🎇 Stay indoors — Keep cats inside and dogs on leads for evening walks. Loud noises can cause panic.
🥂 Party food & drinks — Keep snacks, chocolate and alcohol well out of reach!

In honour of Pets 1st working with Streetvet again this Christmas season, we thought we would share what some of your donations contribute towards. ❄️

This year we are seeking donations in aid of the StreetVet Accredited Hostel Scheme.🐾

Current statistics suggest around 320,000 people are currently experiencing homelessness in the UK and anywhere from 5% to 25% of them are homeless with a pet.

Hostels are an essential part of the UK response to homelessness, providing individuals with a temporary place to stay and helping them to find a way into permanent accommodation. In addition hostels can play a key role in assisting residents with reintegration into society via provision of essential services; such as medical and mental health care, access to support workers, applications for benefits and identity documents and employment skills training.

StreetVet wants to ensure nobody has to choose between their pet and a roof over their heads.

One of the StreetVet charity aims is to protect and foster the human-animal bond in what we recognize is one of its most profound forms, namely that between a long-term companion and an owner experiencing homelessness. We always strive to keep pets and their owners together whenever possible, in recognition of the mutual benefits this brings. We do this by helping owners keep their pets healthy and happy, advocating for pets and their owners, and by helping eliminate barriers which otherwise exclude pet owners from accessing essential services.
