๐ŸŒโœจ World Braille Day Celebration โœจ๐ŸŒ

This weekend, our residents took part in a truly special and meaningful celebration of World Braille Day โ€” an experience that touched hearts and opened minds.
We explored the inspiring history of Braille and Louis Braille, learning how one simple idea changed the lives of millions around the world. Our residents then stepped into a new perspective, discovering what it feels like to read by touch, gaining a deeper appreciation for the world of those who are visually impaired.

From blind food tasting ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐ŸŽ to writing their very own names in Braille, every activity was filled with curiosity, laughter, and learning. We didnโ€™t stop there โ€” matching word games challenged minds, and some of our residents even went on to create full sentences in Braille! ๐Ÿ‘

It was a magical journey of empathy, understanding, and connection. Moments like these remind us how powerful learning can be โ€” not just educational, but deeply human. This experience truly made a difference and will stay with our residents for a long time ๐Ÿ’™

**October to December Highlights at Rivermede Court** ๐Ÿ‚๐ŸŽ„โœจ
*A heartfelt close to a truly unforgettable year*

As the year drew to a close, Rivermede Court continued to shine with kindness, community spirit, and meaningful moments. Hereโ€™s a look back at our final months of the year.

---

# # # **October: Giving Back and Sharing Knowledge**

October was a month of generosity and connection. Thanks to the dedication of our residents, families, and team, we supported the **Wildlife Hospital** by donating an incredible **125 crates of newspapers** ๐Ÿฆ”๐Ÿฆ‰ โ€“ a fantastic achievement.

For the **third year running**, our residents proudly took part in **The Fun Palace**, hosting a craft table at **Egham Library** and sharing their creativity with the wider community. We also held a **collection for the local food bank**, continuing our commitment to supporting those in need.

A very special milestone saw **Hanka travel to the Czech Republic** to exchange knowledge with **G Centrum Mikulov**. What began 18 months ago as a shared vision has grown into a **unique and lasting friendship**, something we are incredibly proud of.

October was also a time of mixed emotions as we said a fond farewell to **Dot and Jane**, who retired after giving so much to Rivermede Court. We thank them both for everything they have done and wish them the happiest retirement ๐Ÿ’.

Our intergenerational partnership with **Playbox Nursery** continued to flourish with more craft sessions, gym ball drumming, singing, and exercise. We truly canโ€™t wait for even more fun together.

---

# # # **December: Festive Magic and Meaningful Moments**

December was filled with festive cheer as we prepared for Christmas together ๐ŸŽ„. We hosted a wonderful **Christmas Fair**, along with **two wreath-making sessions**, raising an amazing **ยฃ1,411.37 for Thames Hospice** ๐Ÿ‘. We are already excited that this fundraising means weโ€™ll be welcoming **our very own elephant in February** ๐Ÿ˜!

We shared **mince pies and mulled wine** with the cheerful **Jingle Bells Singers**, celebrating our artists and friends in true festive style.

Our home came alive with our **very own Nativity Play**, led by the incredibly talented **Mandie**, bringing smiles, laughter, and a few happy tears.

We were honoured to be invited to several local community Christmas events, including those hosted by the **Egham Brass Band** and **Bishopsgate School**, reinforcing the strong bonds we share with our local community.

Christmas Day itself was filled with warmth and joy, with **Christmas canapรฉs, champagne**, and the giving of **meaningful, thoughtful gifts**, making the day truly special for everyone.

---

# # # **Looking Ahead**

We would like to send huge congratulations to **everyone who completed their NVQ this year** โ€“ a fantastic achievement and a testament to hard work and dedication ๐Ÿ‘.

It has been a busy, inspiring, and unforgettable year, and we cannot wait to see what **2026** brings.

๐Ÿ’› **Thank you to every single one of you for your continued support, kindness, and belief in Rivermede Court. We wish you all a very Happy New Year 2026!** ๐Ÿ’›๐ŸŽ‰

July to September Highlights at Rivermede Court ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽจ
Summer memories, shared voices, and community celebrations

The summer months brought music, laughter, creativity, and proud milestones to Rivermede Court. Hereโ€™s a look back at three months filled with togetherness and unforgettable moments.

July: Music, Joy, and a Sweet Harvest

July marked the exciting start of our Music Theme, and what a way to begin! We were delighted to accept a musical challenge from Charlie at Mornington Court Care Home, and the result was pure joy. Our minibus turned into a moving concert, filled with singing, laughter, and energy from across our whole community โ€“ residents, family members, doctors, nurses, team members, entertainersโ€ฆ everyone joined in ๐ŸŽค๐ŸŽถ. National Activity Providers Association

There were even tap-dancing attempts โ€“ for some, the very first time in three years โ€“ proving once again that music truly brings people together.

A small but very special victory came from our garden too. For the first time in three years, we successfully harvested 21 plums ๐Ÿ‘ (much to our delight and to the disappointment of the pigeons who usually get there first!).

August: Paws, Partnerships, and Shared Memories

August was full of smiles as we hosted our very own Rivermede Court Dog Show ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ†. What a fantastic event it was โ€“ happiness all around, wagging tails, proud owners, and residents absolutely loving every moment.

We were also joined by residentsโ€™ relatives on our trips, creating beautiful shared experiences and lasting memories together โ€“ moments that truly mean the world.

Music continued to play a huge part in our days, with more singing sessions and collaborations with Thames Hospice, strengthening connections through shared voices and joy.

September: Celebrations, Creativity, and Community Thanks

September was a truly special month as we proudly celebrated Rivermede Courtโ€™s 6th Birthday ๐ŸŽ‚. We invited our wonderful community to celebrate with us as a heartfelt thank you for their continued support โ€“ and what a celebration it was.

We also took part in Arts in Care Homes for the second year running, going bigger and better than ever. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed and made the event so special.

Special appreciation goes to the Jubilee High School Choir, who provided outstanding entertainment and filled our home with beautiful music ๐ŸŽต.

We were honoured to have Margaret, Mayor of Runnymede, officially open our Arts in Care Homes event โ€“ a moment of great pride for everyone involved.

๐Ÿ’› From music and milestones to paws, plums, and powerful partnerships, July to September reminded us just how strong our Rivermede Court community truly is. Thank you to everyone who continues to share this journey with us. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ‘

April to June Highlights at Rivermede Court ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒผโ˜€๏ธ
If you thought the first three months were busyโ€ฆ we were only just getting started!

The spring and early summer months brought even more adventure, learning, celebration, and unforgettable moments to Rivermede Court. Hereโ€™s a look back at another incredible chapter of the year.

April: New Beginnings, Culture, and Community

April burst into life with the start of lambing season at Bocketts Farm Park โ€“ a truly special experience for everyone. A huge thank you to Angela, Martin, Alex, and the entire farm team for welcoming us so warmly and treats us like Royalty.

Our partnership with Theatre Royal Windsor kept us wonderfully busy โ€“ by April we had already enjoyed 10 theatre shows, filling our days with drama, music, and laughter.

We were delighted to welcome G-centrum Mikulov Maruska to Rivermede Court, and with her arrival we launched our Culture Celebrations, combining international activities with our friends from Staines & Egham Sea Cadets.

Easter arrived with joy and plenty of character, thanks to a visit from many different Easter bunnies ๐Ÿฐ. We also gave back to nature by building bee houses for the community and our wildlife garden.

One especially unique Sprinkle of Cinnamon took us on an unforgettable trip to Longleat Safari Park ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ˜.

April also saw us host Dementia Bus Training, a project very close to our hearts, helping raise awareness and understanding within the wider community.

May: Remembrance, Recognition, and Music

May was a month of pride and reflection. We were honoured to be invited to the Mayorโ€™s Gala Event, and we marked VE80 in many meaningful ways โ€“ from an international lunch and garden party, to lighting the beacon. Elaine Gill

We were deeply touched to receive an award from Mayor Cllr Elaine Gill, recognising our support during her mayoral year. Together, we also planted a Peace Willow Tree, symbolising peace and unity between countries ๐ŸŒฟ.

A real highlight of the month was welcoming the incredible Lynn Paul, actress and singer, to Rivermede Court for a joyful sing-along and afternoon tea โ€“ a truly magical afternoon.

June: Gratitude, Achievement, and Royal Moments

June was all about celebration and connection. We honoured Volunteersโ€™ Week and Carersโ€™ Week, recognising the amazing people who give so much to others every day.

We fully embraced Love Egham Week, enjoying a glamorous Ladiesโ€™ Night Out and a Menโ€™s BBQ at St John's Egham Church โ€“ community spirit at its best.

Our residents proudly launched a new resident-led recycling project, collecting newspapers to support a wildlife hospital ๐Ÿฆ”๐Ÿฆ‰.

We were honoured to attend a special event hosted by the Sea Cadets, and we signed up for the Trunks Across the Thames project with Thames Hospice.

June also took us to the Royal Windsor Flower Show for the 4th time, where we had the once-in-a-lifetime honour of meeting His Majesty The King ๐Ÿ‘‘๐ŸŒธ.

To end the month โ€“ and truly top it all off โ€“ our Activity Team won the Cinnamon Award: Spirit of Cinnamon ๐Ÿ‘โœจ
An incredible achievement that reflects their passion, creativity, and heart. Cinnamon Care Collection

๐Ÿ’› Thank you to everyone who continues to support, inspire, and share this journey with us. Rivermede Court truly is a community like no other. ๐Ÿ’›

January to March Highlights at Rivermede Court

The first three months of the year have been filled with connection, creativity, celebration, and community spirit at Rivermede Court.

January: A Year Begins with Community and Music

We started the year on a positive note when Runnymede Borough Council contacted us to take part in a tree-planting initiative, supporting sustainability and our local environment. January also saw our team attend the National Activity Providers Association NAPA Conference, where we proudly celebrated Chrissie winning the Unsung Hero Awardโ€”a well-deserved recognition for her dedication and commitment.

Together with NAPA, we launched the Year of Music, setting the tone for a year full of joy and meaningful experiences. To close the month, we hosted a Community Thank You Afternoon Lunch, showing our appreciation for the incredible support we receive from our local community.

February: Creativity, Inclusion, and New Achievements

February marked the start of our exciting new activities with Creative Mojo Guildford Farnham & Basingstoke and what a creative year it has already been. Following the conference, we introduced British Sign Language into our home and have been learning ever since, with heartfelt thanks to Singing Hands for their guidance.

We were also thrilled to achieve a Number 1 Care Home rating, a fantastic accomplishment for the whole team. Our relationship with St John's Egham Playbox Nursery continued to grow stronger, bringing wonderful intergenerational adventures and shared moments of joy.

March: Celebrations and Recognition

March was a month full of celebration. We proudly marked International Womenโ€™s Day, recognising the strength, achievements, and contributions of women within our community.

We celebrated Philโ€™s 90th birthday in unforgettable style, with a special sprinkle of cinnamon at Manarello and an exhilarating ride in a Ferrariโ€”an experience he will always remember. The celebrations continued as Chrissie was named Runnymede Borough Volunteer of the Year, another outstanding achievement.

To round off the month, Hanka travelled to London to take part in food reminiscence with NAPA, exploring memories, culture, and connection through the power of food.
