With the changing of the clocks, I am reminded how grateful I am to be offering appointments in another, equally cosy, little huttie at the wonderful Greenbrae Steading this year. It is such a warm, welcoming space; perfect for relaxing hypnotherapy sessions on these dark, crisp evenings.

I never expect clients to reach out after our work together ends—their successes belong to them. But when someone does share how their life has shifted, it’s deeply moving, and I’m always honoured to receive it.

With her kind permission, I’m sharing these words from Gabby, whose journey is nothing short of inspiring:

Helping people reclaim freedom and confidence like this is exactly why I do what I do.

✨ If you’re ready to take the first step toward a calmer, more confident life, I’d love to help. You can find out more about working with me here: https://moraycoasthypnotherapy.com

What is Ericksonian Hypnotherapy?

Did you know that hypnotherapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach? Just like therapy itself, there are different styles and techniques in hypnotherapy.

One of the most influential figures in modern hypnotherapy is Milton H. Erickson, we often call his style Ericksonian hypnotherapy.

Who was Dr Milton Erickson? He was a psychiatrist who specialised in medical hypnosis and he founded the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis.

Unlike the traditional, direct hypnosis approach where a hypnotist might have said something like ‘You will stop smoking’ Erickson’s methods are conversational, indirect, and tailored to each person.

He believed in the power of the unconscious mind and used metaphors, stories, and even humour to help people find their own solutions.
Erickson’s work was more like planting seeds of change rather than giving instructions.

Why do we mostly use Ericksonian hypnotherapy?

The personalised approach is respectful of each clients own strengths, skills and resources.

It’s a compassionate approach that recognises the client is the expert in their own life so it’s all about people’s solutions within themselves, rather than the therapist imposing them from an outside perspective.

It’s a gentle approach, focusing on subtle, indirect suggestions, often through stories or questions. It’s important to hypnotherapists practicing Ericksonian techniques that their client not only finds the sessions helpful, but also enjoyable.

Erickson’s work reminds us that therapy isn’t about ‘fixing’ people, it’s about working together to find individual solutions that respect each person’s unique needs.

Clients new to hypnosis are often a little nervous about it - this post is a lovely summary of some common myths that still surround the experience of hypnosis….

Reading this post made me smile. It reminded me of those times I see a change in a client's face as they consider questions like "what will you notice when things are a little bit better?", or "how did you manage to make .... happen?"

Sometimes these are questions we can ask ourselves to begin to identify small steps toward a goal that's important to us. Sometimes things can feel a little too knotty, and a conversation with someone else, without fear of judgement, is just what is needed to get started🌱.

The word ‘Manifest’ is the Cambridge dictionary’s ’word of the year’

The Word of the Year: Manifest

“Manifest” is everywhere lately. Celebrities talk about “manifesting their dreams,” and it sounds magical just think it, and it will come true. But in the solution-focused world, we see “manifesting” differently.

For us, it’s about clarity and action. Manifesting starts with knowing what you want: What will your life look like when things are better? What will you notice, hear, or feel?

From there, it’s not about wishful thinking but taking small, purposeful steps toward that vision. Each action, no matter how small, is a step closer to making your goals real.

In solution-focused practice, we don’t wait for dreams to fall into our laps.

We identify strengths, notice what’s already working, and use that as a foundation to move forward.

So, if you want to “manifest” your best life, start by asking yourself

“What’s one small thing I can do today that will move me closer to being the best version of myself?”

“What would be the first sign that things are improving? “

Because true manifestation isn’t magic, it’s a mindset of hope, clarity, and action.
