Last month, Scotland introduced an important change to the legislation on burial rights meaning that new burial plots purchased from 2 March 2026, will be owned for 25 years, with the option to renew every 10 years.

Tricia would like to express her heartfelt thanks to all relatives, friends, and neighbours for their kindness, support, and compassion following Tom’s passing, and also for their care and friendship in the months and years prior.

The service was delivered beautifully by Paula Baker and will be remembered always as will the perfect organisation of all the arrangements by John Mackay and team at W.G. Catto Funeral Directors. The teas at the Laichmoray was lovely, and gave everyone the chance to relax and share their memories of Tom.

Finally, thank you to all who attended to pay their respects and for the generous donation totalling £400, raised in aid of Weston’s Comfort Fund.

Sorely missed by family, friends and relatives, William Arthur Sutherland died peacefully at Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin, on Saturday, 4th April 2026, after a short illness, at the age of 89. Born in pre-war Lancaster and brought up from infancy in Burray, Orkney, latterly resident at Hanover Linn Coort, Buckie, Arthur was the son of Orcadian couple the late William and Barbara Mary Sutherland (née Taylor) and brother to Ian and the late Edgar, Betty and Vera, and a cherished uncle and cousin to many.

The funeral service will take place at Moray Crematorium Chapel, Broadley, Buckie, at 2.30 pm on 28th April. The ashes are to be interred in Arthur’s homeland at St Lawrence Kirkyard, Burray, Orkney, on 1st May 2026, at 12 noon. All those wishing to attend are respectfully invited. Family flowers only; if desired, donations to the Residents’ Account at Hanover Linn Coort will be gratefully received at the chapel door

It is with great sadness that the family announce the peaceful passing of Lawrie, at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, on Sunday, 5th April 2026, aged 85 years, with his family by his side. Beloved husband of Jane, and a dear brother, uncle and friend to many. Lawrie will be greatly missed. He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career with British Airways and had a great affection for his dogs, which brought him much joy over the years.

A celebration of Lawrie’s life will be held at W.G. Catto Funeral Home, Linkwood Road, Elgin, IV30 6RE, on Friday, 24th April, at 2pm, to which all are welcome. Family flowers only, please, but donations, if desired, to Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland may be made at the door. Those attending are welcome to wear whatever they feel comfortable in.
