SIMPSON
(Elgin/formerly Urquhart)

Claire, Gary and family would like to express their deepest and most heartfelt appreciation to all relatives, neighbours and friends for the many kind expressions of sympathy received by way of cards, messages, flowers, calls and visits following the recent sad loss of their mum, Margaret.

Sincere thanks to W.G. Catto Funeral Directors for their personal and professional handling of the funeral arrangements. A special thank you to Wendy Toner for her comforting and moving service, which told Mum’s story so beautifully. Thanks also to Room to Bloom for the beautiful floral arrangements, and to The Gordon Arms, Fochabers, for the lovely teas and warm hospitality following the service.

A very special thank you to Susie and the residents at West Park Court for making Margaret feel so welcome during her short stay in Elgin, and to Emma Robertson for her much appreciated companionship to Mum in her final weeks.
Finally, thank you to everyone who attended Mum’s funeral and for the kind donations to the West Park Court Social Fund, which amounted to £475.
Rest in peace, Mum — back in Urquhart where your heart belongs.

A special thanks is also due to Rev. Deon Oelofse, Pastor Graham Swanson and local celebrant and life coach Wendy Toner for the contributions to the service, the Made for Music Moray choir, and to Susan Sutherland from the Lhanbryde Cuppa Cafe for providing refreshments.

BIRNIE
(Elgin)

It is with great sadness that the family announce the peaceful passing of Ian Birnie at Seafield Hospital, Buckie, on Wednesday, 10th December 2025, aged 86 years. Much-loved father of Louise, Morag, and the late John; brother of Fergie and brother-in-law to Moira; dear uncle of Careen; cherished grandfather to Keri and Louise, Ali and Georgina; and great-grandfather to Florence and Ayla. A dear cousin and friend to many – now reunited with Muriel, whom he adored and loved.

They would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this year.
Born in Back Street, Elgin, Dad served proudly as a veteran of the Royal Air Force. He later became a well-known and well-loved publican in Hopeman (Birnie’s Bar/Braemou) before continuing his working life with Wimpy House Builders and Gilcomston Litho in Aberdeen.

After retiring, he spent happy years taxiing in Stonehaven, a role he truly enjoyed, combining his love of driving with meeting people from all walks of life.

Dad also had a lifelong passion for food and cooking — his soups and his famous moussaka were legendary among family and friends. He will be remembered for his warmth, his humour, and the love he poured into every dish he made.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Seafield Hospital for their fantastic compassion and care shown to Ian over the last few months.
Funeral private at Ian’s own request.
