Here’s a really interesting video of my friend pre and post ACL surgery. Shay is a world class Jiu Jitsu athlete who unfortunately suffered a knee injury in a match last year.

In the first video the surgeon performs an anterior drawer test which shows that the tibia excessively shifts out ( like a drawer )

In the second video post repair the same test shows the knee being stable under the same stress.

The ACL anterior cruciate ligament is one of the major knee ligaments . Its job is to stop the tibia sliding forward ( anteriorly ) if it tears the stability of the knee is majorly compromised.
The third video shows the ACL ligament and how it can be damaged under excessive forces such as rotation and hyper extension.

In BJJ competition, some submission attacks directly attack these motions and threaten the knee ligaments.

Regardless I know Shay will recover and be back at the top level once he recovers. surgery
