đ¸ Early Pregnancy Ultrasound: What You Should Know đ¸
If youâre considering an early pregnancy ultrasound, we totally understand your excitement and eagerness to see your little one. However, itâs important to note that early on (before 6 weeks), we may not see much on the scan just yet. At this stage, the pregnancy might be too small or still developing, and you might not see a heartbeat or clear signs of pregnancy.
⨠Why wait until 6 weeks?
Before 6 weeks, the gestational sac and embryo may not be fully visible, which can cause unnecessary anxiety. Itâs common not to see much in the early days, and thatâs completely normal. Early pregnancy ultrasounds prior to 6 weeks can be inconclusive, and we want to make sure weâre giving you accurate information without any confusion. đĄ
𩺠What we do routinely during an early scan
Once we hit that 6-week mark, we aim to check the following:
âď¸ Presence of a gestational sac
âď¸ Fetal heartbeat (if itâs the right time)
âď¸Intrauterine pregnancy (inside the womb)
âď¸ Measurement of embryo growth
âď¸ Single or mulitple pregnancy
If the scan requires a clearer view, we may recommend an internal transvaginal scan (with your consent) to get a more accurate look. This is a common and safe procedure that helps us ensure everything is progressing as it should.
For your peace of mind and the best possible results, we suggest waiting until after 6 weeks for an ultrasound. Weâre here to guide you and answer any questions along the way. đ
