Sometimes, the voice in your head saying 'you're not enough' isn’t really yours. It’s an echo from years ago when you were small, scared, and just trying to feel loved. You begin to grow when you meet that inner child with understanding instead of silence.

The main thing to remember is that taking a time out from a toxic relative, setting boundaries for the relationship, and stepping away from their drama doesn’t make you a bad person.'

Patience visited me
And it reminded me
That good things take time to come to fruition
And grow slowly with stability

Peace visited me
And it reminded me
That I may remain calm through the storms of life
Regardless of the chaos surrounding me

Hope visited me
And it reminded me
That better times lay ahead
And it would always be there to guide and uplift me

Humility visited me
And it reminded me
That I may achieve it
Not by trying to shrink myself and make myself less
But by focusing on serving the world and uplifting those around me

Kindness visited me
And it reminded me
To be more gentle, forgiving and compassionate toward myself
And those surrounding me

Confidence visited me
And it reminded me
To not conceal or suppress my gifts and talents
In order to make others feel more comfortable
But to embrace what makes me me

Focus visited me
And it reminded me
That other people’s insecurities and judgements about me
Are not my problem
And I should redirect my attention
From others back to me

Freedom visited me
And it reminded me
That no one has control over my mindset, thoughts and wellbeing
But me

And love visited me
And it reminded me
That I need not search for it in others
As it lies within me.

It is not wrong to terminate relationships with family members who have continuously disrespected, hurt, manipulated or emotionally abused you.

You think your hardness
shows that you're strong
And I know if I answer,
you'll say I am wrong
I believe true strength
is found in the softening
Stop for a moment
and think of what you're offering
The only way you find
to support your truth
Is to tell me I'm not smart enough
that I have no proof
But if you believed you were so right
You wouldn't need to hold any fight
And you would never say things
about me that aren't true
They are little attempts to
make me forget myself, so I believe you
I smile as you tell me
to wake up to myself
Because I think you're seeing
something in me, you should do yourself
I'm a reflection after all
of both your love and your war
So perhaps when I don't speak,
you should listen some more
Your lack of empathy
means nothing to me
Except for being a signpost
for where I don't want to be
