💭 It’s not just stress…
it’s your nervous system saying “I can’t keep doing this”

So many adults I work with have been told:

👉 anxiety
👉 depression
👉 stress

But what they are actually experiencing is:

💥 burnout

And burnout can look like:

exhaustion that rest doesn’t fix
low tolerance for noise or demands
emotional overwhelm
shutting down
eeling disconnected

💡 Burnout is not weakness

It is a nervous system that has been pushed too far for too long

And it needs support… not more pressure

and realise it’s them too

It often starts with:

👉 “I just want to understand my child better”

But along the way…

They begin to recognise:

• the overwhelm
• the sensory sensitivities
• the need for control
• the burnout
• the emotional intensity

And suddenly it clicks

💡 “This isn’t just my child… this is me too”

This can feel:

💛 emotional

💛 validating
💛 overwhelming

and still feel completely overwhelmed inside

So many adults hear:

👉 “But you’re doing fine”
👉 “You’ve got a job, a family, a life”

And yes… on the outside, it might look like that

But inside it can feel like:

constant overthinking
exhaustion
burnout cycles
feeling on edge
never fully switching off

💡 High functioning often means high masking

It means:

👉 you’ve learned to hide the struggle
👉 not that the struggle isn’t there

And you deserve support too 🤍

When supporting a neurodivergent child
it’s often the smallest changes that matter most

✨ Try this:

✔ give more time
✔ reduce demands slightly
✔ keep routines predictable
✔ prepare for transitions
✔ lower your tone and pace

These might seem simple

But they directly support the nervous system

💡 And when the nervous system feels safer…
everything starts to shift

You don’t need perfection

they’re trying to feel safe

ARFID is so often misunderstood

It is not about:
❌ being picky
❌ being stubborn

💡 It is about safety

For many children, food can feel:

⚠ unpredictable
⚠ overwhelming
⚠ unsafe

This is why you might see:

👉 very limited foods
👉 strong brand preferences
👉 refusal to try new things

And pressure makes it worse

✨ What helps instead:

✔ removing pressure
✔ building familiarity
✔ creating positive experiences around food

Because safety comes before variety

look at sleep first

Sleep is not just about rest

💡 It is the foundation of the nervous system

When a child is tired:

⚠ emotions are bigger
⚠ tolerance is lower
⚠ anxiety increases
⚠ behaviour becomes harder

And many neurodivergent children struggle with:

👉 settling
👉 staying asleep
👉 early waking

So what looks like behaviour…
is often exhaustion

✨ When sleep improves:

✔ regulation improves
✔ mood improves
✔ resilience improves

💭 When your child is overwhelmed…
start with the body, not the behaviour

You don’t need complicated strategies

Start here 👇

✔ movement
✔ deep pressure (hugs, squeezing a cushion)
✔ sitting close
✔ slowing everything down

Because when a child is dysregulated:

👉 their body feels unsafe
👉 their brain cannot think clearly

💡 Regulation happens through the body first

Not through logic
Not through reasoning

✨ When the body feels calm…
everything else becomes easier

3 Things to Stop Doing If Your Child Is Anxious

💭 If your child is anxious…
this might help more than anything

So many parents are doing their absolute best 🤍
but unknowingly making things harder

Let’s gently shift this 👇

❌ Stop over-explaining in the moment
When your child is overwhelmed
they cannot process lots of words

👉 Less talking = more safety

❌ Stop pushing through distress
“Just try”
“You’ll be fine”

👉 This can increase anxiety, not reduce it

❌ Stop focusing only on behaviour
Anxiety is not behaviour
💡 it’s a nervous system response

✨ Try this instead:

✔ fewer words
✔ calmer tone
✔ slower pace
✔ more reassurance

💡 You’re not doing it wrong
You’ve just not been shown what actually helps yet
