Meningitis Outbreak
As you may be aware, there has been a recent outbreak of meningococcal disease in Kent. The UKHSA is working to contain the situation and is providing prophylactic antibiotics to close contacts. There is currently no new advice about wider access to the Meningitis B vaccine. You may wish to check your red book to see whether this vaccine has been included in your past vaccination schedule. If you wish to be vaccinated, this will need to be arranged privately at pharmacies or clinics that offer this service.
Symptoms of meningitis can include a sudden high temperature, a stiff neck, a severe and worsening headache, and a rash that does not fade when pressed with a glass. If you have any concerns about yourself or your child, please seek medical advice immediately.
