We’re very pleased to be able to offer Shockwave Therapy at Performance Physio Clinic.

At Performance Physio Clinic, we are delighted to offer Shockwave Therapy (Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy – ESWT) as part of our comprehensive range of treatment options. This cutting-edge, non-invasive therapy represents our commitment to providing you with the most effective and advanced solutions for pain relief and recovery.
What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave Therapy is a revolutionary treatment that uses focused acoustic sound waves to stimulate the body’s natural healing process. This clven therapy accelerates tissue repair, reduces pain, and improves mobility without the need for surgery or medication.

Why We Chose to Offer This Treatment
We introduced Shockwave Therapy to our clinic because we’ve seen remarkable results in treating stubborn, chronic conditions that often don’t respond well to traditional physiotherapy alone.

This technology allows us to provide faster, more effective relief for our patients, helping you get back to the activities you love sooner.

What to Expect:

Each session typically lasts 10-15 minutes. While some patients may experience mild discomfort during treatment, most find it tolerable and well worth the results. Many patients notice improvement after the first session, with optimal results usually achieved within 3-6 treatments.

Your Path to Recovery Starts Here.
If you’ve been struggling with chronic pain or a persistent injury, Shockwave Therapy may be the solution you’ve been looking for. Contact us today to find out if this treatment is right for you.

Shoulder Pain & Rotator Cuff Conditions

Restore strength. Restore function.

Shoulder pain is common and often linked to irritation of the rotator cuff, joint stiffness, muscle imbalance, or overload from work, sport, or daily activity. Physiotherapy helps restore movement, reduce pain, and rebuild strength so you can return to normal function.

✅ Common Causes of Shoulder Pain

✔ Rotator cuff tendinopathy or tear
✔ Shoulder impingement / painful arc
✔ Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)
✔ AC joint irritation or osteoarthritis
✔ Postural and muscle imbalance
✔ Sports or gym-related overload (throwing, lifting, overhead work)

✅ How Physiotherapy Can Help

✔ Hands-on treatment to reduce pain and improve mobility
✔ Strength and stability exercises tailored to your shoulder function
✔ Posture and movement retraining to reduce joint irritation
✔ Education on loading, recovery, and return to activity
✔ Progressive rehab plan for work, sport, or everyday movement

✅ When to Seek Help

✔ Pain lasting longer than 2–3 weeks
✔ Pain at night or when lying on the shoulder
✔ Difficulty lifting arm overhead or reaching behind back
✔ Loss of strength or movement after injury

Suffering from Neck Pain & Headaches?

We can help relieve pain, tension and restore movement.

Neck pain and related headaches are common and can be triggered by posture, stress, injury (e.g., whiplash), or muscular tightness. With the right assessment and treatment, most cases improve quickly and safely.

✅ Common Causes

✔ Postural strain from desk/phone use
✔ Muscle tension and trigger points
✔ Joint stiffness or degenerative changes
✔ Whiplash or sudden movement injuries
✔ Nerve irritation or referred pain
✔ Stress-related guarding and poor sleep

✅ How Physiotherapy Can Help

✔ Hands-on therapy to reduce pain and muscle tension
✔ Specific exercises to restore mobility and strength
✔ Posture coaching and workstation advice
✔ Headache management strategies (cervicogenic/tension-type)
✔ Breathing and relaxation techniques to reduce recurrence
✔ Personalised plan to return to work, sport, and daily life

✅ When to Seek Help

✔ Pain or headaches lasting > 2–3 weeks
✔ Pain radiating into the arm, tingling, or numbness
✔ Pain affecting sleep, driving, or work
✔ Recurrent episodes or after a road-traffic incident

Shockwave therapy delivers high-energy acoustic waves to injured tissues, which can:
• Stimulate healing of chronically degenerated tendons.
• Increase blood flow and neovascularization.
• Reduce pain by desensitizing local nerve endings and modulating pain pathways.
• Break up fibrotic tissue and calcifications that may impede healing with Benefits for Posterior Knee Tendinopathy

While posterior knee tendinopathy is less common than patellar or Achilles tendinopathy, ESWT principles apply similarly:

1. Pain Reduction
• Many patients report significant pain relief within weeks after treatment.
• The effect is often long-term (3–12 months).

2. Improved Function and Mobility
• Reduced stiffness and improved flexibility of the posterior knee structures.
• Better tolerance to activities like squatting, running, or climbing stairs.

3. Tissue Regeneration
• Promotes cellular repair and collagen remodeling at the tendon insertion (especially useful for chronic, degenerative tendinopathies that fail to heal with rest or exercise alone).

4. Non-Invasive Alternative
• Avoids injections or surgery.
• Can be combined safely with physiotherapy and eccentric strengthening.

Works best when combined with a structured loading and rehabilitation program.
• May require 3–6 sessions, typically spaced 1 week apart.
• Temporary soreness or bruising can occur.
• Not ideal for acute tears, severe inflammation, or in patients with coagulation disorders.

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses acoustic sound waves to stimulate healing in damaged tissues. It works by delivering low-energy sound waves to an injured area to increase blood flow, promote cell regeneration, and break down calcifications.

This treatment is often used for chronic tendon conditions like Achilles tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis, and tennis elbow.

How it works:

Application: A gel is applied to the skin, and a handheld device is moved over the affected area.

Energy delivery: The device sends rapid impulses of acoustic energy (shockwaves) into the tissue.

Healing response: These shockwaves create a pro-inflammatory response that increases blood flow, stimulates new tissue growth, and can break down calcium deposits.

Pain reduction: The therapy can also reduce pain by overstimulating nerve endings in the area.

Conditions treated:

Heel pain (plantar fasciopathy), Achilles tendon pain (Achilles tendinopathy), Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis), Pain below the kneecap (patellar tendinopathy), and Calcium build-up in tendons (calcific tendinopathy).

Before and during treatment
Preparation: Wear loose clothing for easy access to the area and avoid NSAIDs (like ibuprofen) before and during treatment, as they can affect the therapy’s effectiveness.

Course of treatment: A course often involves one session per week for about three consecutive weeks.

Intensity: The clinician may start with a lower intensity and gradually increase it in subsequent sessions.

Pain: The procedure is not usually painful, though some discomfort is possible.

After treatment
Assessment: A follow-up appointment is typically scheduled 4 to 6 weeks after the final session to assess the response to the treatment.

Outcome: While results are often positive, there is no guarantee it will improve symptoms.
