Our Easter celebrations are still in full swing here at Appleby House, with more wonderful music and entertainment to enjoy.

A huge thank you to MACK Entertainment for bringing us the lovely and very talented Malindi, who treated our residents to a fantastic selection of upbeat tunes. There was plenty of toe-tapping, singing along, and smiles all around—just how we like it!

Music truly brings everyone together, and it was another joyful afternoon filled with energy, laughter, and special moments.

We can’t wait for more celebrations to come!

At Appleby House, we love a challenge! 🍫🎲
So, when asked to create a chocolate cake inspired by a retro board game, we made not one but two — a Snakes and Ladders game and a Chess set, all from chocolate!
Lots of laughter, disappearing sweets, and even a first-time mixer user made it a sweet day to remember.

Today at Appleby House, we say a heartfelt goodbye to someone who has truly been at the centre of our home — our wonderful maintenance lead, Tom.
For nearly 10 years, Tom has given so much more than just his skills and hard work. He has given his time, his kindness, and his genuine care to everyone here. He’s been a friendly face in the corridors, always stopping to check in on our residents, sharing a smile, a laugh, or simply a quiet moment of reassurance. It’s these little things that have meant the world.
Tom isn’t just part of the team — he’s been part of the Appleby House family. Loved deeply by residents and respected by staff, his presence has made a lasting difference to daily life in our home.
There are certainly big boots to fill, and he will be greatly missed by us all.
While we are sad to see him go, we are so proud of him and excited for what lies ahead. His next chapter is so well deserved.
From all of us at Appleby House — thank you, Tom, for everything. We wish you all the very best for the future. 💙

Moving Well, Feeling Well at Appleby House!

At Appleby House, we know that staying active is so important for both body and mind — and it looks different for everyone.
From relaxing yoga sessions and gentle exercise, to fun chair Dancercise and uplifting Zumba, there’s always something to get our residents moving in a way that suits them. Every activity is thoughtfully tailored, ensuring everyone can take part comfortably and safely, whatever their ability.
We also love celebrating individuality. One of our wonderful residents, who remains incredibly fit, enjoys starting her day with a virtual cycle workout in the lounge — a fantastic example of keeping up personal routines and doing what you love.
Exercise isn’t just about fitness — it boosts mood, supports mobility, encourages social connection, and brings a real sense of achievement.
At Appleby House, we move together, laugh together, and support each other every step of the way.

This afternoon we were treated to a wonderful performance from Kate Parker from MACK Entertainment, who had everyone clapping their hands, singing along and even whistling away.
Kate went down beautifully with our residents, bringing smiles, energy and plenty of happy memories to the room.
As always, music proves to be one of the most powerful and meaningful parts of life here at Appleby House!

World Book Day at Appleby House!

This morning our residents gathered together in the beautiful Apple Conservatory for a special World Book Day activity — imagining what their own life stories would be called if their lives were written as books.

Together we began exploring the chapters of their lives, sharing memories of family, careers, travels and the moments that have shaped them. After two whole hours we are still only on Chapter 2 out of 5, which just shows how many wonderful stories our residents have to tell!

There were heartfelt memories, fascinating life experiences, and a few rather saucy tales that had us all in fits of giggles. It was such a lovely way for residents to learn more about each other and celebrate the incredible lives they have lived.

Sometimes the best stories are the ones sitting right beside us.

Its amazing what some rays of sunshine blue skies can do! We have missed sharing pictures of our incredible Forget-Me-Not allotment, looking forward to Spring and some natural Vitamin D. The allotment went on to inspire Pat and Rosemary to paint beautiful flowers in the art studio ###

What a lovely day we are having here at Appleby House with our residents!

After a wonderful morning spent armchair travelling to China, learning about traditions and celebrations for Chinese New Year, the afternoon continued with even more joy as we welcomed the lovely Becky from Mack Entertainment.

Becky filled our home with beautiful music, including many of the love songs we all know and cherish, helping us continue our Valentine’s celebrations. The lounge was soon filled with smiles, gentle swaying, and residents singing along to the familiar melodies that bring back so many treasured memories.

It has been a day full of culture, music, companionship, and meaningful moments — the very heart of life here at Appleby House!
