So a quick update. We have so far raised £60 for our family participation in 62 miles in October. We have decided that as we are doing it as a family we will complete 310 miles in total over the month. Esther Atkin-Smith and Mel Atkin-Smith, can’t wait to complete this challenge with you.

Please sponsor us as this is a wonderful charity and they need every little bit of financial support.

So what are the benefits of working with a nutritional diet and weight advisor?
I think the main one for me is that you never begin a diet. Your advisor will get to know you, your lifestyle, your diet, your energy levels and your likes and dislikes. Then they begin to help you find small things to introduce into your life. A gradual uptake of increases and additions, life should be enjoyable and a diet never is.
A qualified nutritional advisor can assess your energy usage at a base level and then calculate your requirements for your average day/ week. They also take into account your phase of life and what nutrients need to be focused on. The biggest difference is they do not measure your change by weight, health is not determined by a number on the scales. Often when adding in healthy habits you may see gain on the scales; you will however see a difference in health; hair, skin, nails, energy, recovery, performance and body definition. That could be losing inches or gaining them; depending on where you are at on your journey. One of the key things is through, they will work with you, this is your journey and you will be the decider, implementer and sustainer.

So how is everyone’s new year starting? Have you caved, which apparently happens by the 12th. If you feel like you have remember you haven’t quit or failed till you decide to stop. We all have blips. We simply have refocus, gather our choices and then start to move in the right direction.

So if anyone is on the same page as me, hitting January moving, mindfully eating and generally being more grounded and focused. Join me; I’m eating clean, moving daily and refocusing regularly. This is not a resolution but an intention to maintain a healthy life, to remain grounded and focused on living x

So after losing faith in my nutritional training when it wasn’t working and nothing made sense. Here I am beginning my refocus with medication and supplements to enable my body to function as a regular one. My nutrition now is more important than ever, if I had been serious and adopted these lifestyle changes many years ago. Maybe, just maybe I would not now be sporting three chronic diseases. Still we can’t go back only move forward. I hope this is inspirational for people, who are struggling and need some encouragement. If the desire is there you can harness it with encouragement, support and information.

So news just in, I am now able to function as a human being again. Studying has now resumed, level 4 nutrition here I come.

It has been a really tough 12-18 months, a disheartening journey of frustration and confusion. What I took for my age and the changes that brought physically; turned out to be two more chronic diseases to add to my syndrome. What does this mean??? I now have a total of three conditions, which result in weight gain along with numerous other limitations.

So here is me starting my journey again; with what hopefully should be now a more functioning body; one a little more aligned with the rest of the population.

So like everyone, I am back at the place where I need to refocus my efforts. Implementing some personal lifestyle choices to improve various elements of my life. My mid forties journey is proving a little more than tough; anxiety, weight gain, muscle loss, vertigo to name but a few.
This is now where I need to reflect where I am, where I have been and where I want to be. I am physically fitter now than I was several years ago and I can certainly do a 10k workout in less time than in my late 20s. I am not feeling as great within my body though and my muscle tone is certainly depleting. I need to change up my eating to enable better utilisation of my nutrients.
Meal compositions are just as important as the number of calories and times ingested are. With this is mind I am looking to have a calorie intake window of 8 hours and also have a food ratio of carb 40%, fats 30% and proteins 30%. This will reduce my glucose spikes from meals and ensure that my amino acids to repair and build tissues are improved and sustained.
Remember calories are all used differently and these can have a real effect on the bodies energy and recovery pre and post workouts.
