πŸ’’ What is a β€œSlipped” Disc?
Despite the name, a disc in your spine doesn’t actually β€œslip” out of place.
Your spinal discs are cushion-like pads between the bones (vertebrae) that absorb shock and help you move.
What really happens:
πŸŒ€ The soft inner gel of the disc pushes through a crack in the tougher outer layer
⚑ This can press on nearby nerves, causing pain, numbness, or tingling
Common causes:
πŸ”„ Repetitive bending or twisting
πŸ’₯ Heavy lifting with poor technique

Symptoms may include:

❄️ Is R.I.C.E. Still the Best for Injury Recovery? πŸ€”
For decades, we’ve been told to Rest, Ice, Compress, and Elevate (R.I.C.E.) after an injury. But recent research suggests this might not be the optimal approach.
Why the Shift?
β€’ Rest: Extended rest can lead to stiffness and delayed healing. Early movement is now encouraged to promote recovery.
β€’ Ice: While ice can reduce swelling temporarily, it may also slow down the body's natural healing process by restricting blood flow.
What’s the New Approach?
Modern protocols like P.O.L.I.C.E. (Protection, Optimal Loading, Ice, Compression, Elevation) and P.E.A.C.E. & L.O.V.E. (Protection, Elevation, Avoid anti-inflammatories, Compression, Education & Load, Optimism, Vascularisation, Exercise) focus on:
β€’ Protecting the injury initially
β€’ Gradually loading the tissue to promote healing
β€’ Incorporating movement early on
Takeaway: While R.I.C.E. was once standard, evolving science suggests a more active approach may lead to better outcomes.
