One of my favourite quotes. Creativity is such a huge part of why I love Drawing and Talking. I love that sessions allow the individual to fully explore their creativity, with such simple tools. Just a pencil and paper can create whole worlds. πŸ’™πŸ˜Š

A lovely reminder from but also...
It's okay to not be sad.
Today will be a mixture of emotions for many. Personally this all brings back grief I would have thought I'd long healed from. But as they say, grief gets smaller with time, but never truly goes away. I hope everyone is spending today with friends and family. Its okay no matter how you're feeling. πŸ’™

Our mental health is such an important part of our daily lives. Without the correct support and understanding it can cause detrimental effects on our perspective, relationships and work.

But now more than ever, it is also effecting our children. A shocking amount of children suffer with poor mental health. Something I have seen throughout my time as a Teaching Assistant. My days would be filled with supporting students in crisis. I would spent countless hours sat on the floor supporting distressed students, handing out tissues, and flooding the Safeguarding team with new reports and concerns. It is truly upsetting the lack of funding available to support SEMH. Options for families to find help are limited and some waiting lists are up to 2 years long. It can be scary for families to see their child suffering and have no way of progressing.

πŸ’™ This is why I do what I do. I want to be an option for those on this challenging journey. Drawing and Talking is a great intervention for those waiting for more professional action. πŸ’™

Over the past 7 years, during my time as a Specialist Teaching Assistant, it was often my job to encourage, and convince children who are suffering with intense anxiety to come to school. This has been a very hard aspect of my roles due to the personal feeling that I can't garenttee their school day won't end with them feeling even more stressed and fearful. Once through the door, I often couldn't be with them for the rest of the day. Children with high anxiety are often overlooked, and underfunded. Once in school, they will often present as if they are "fine". Which can cause others to have less patience and understanding of the internal battle the child is facing but also the very real battles the parental figures might be facing daily.

This is another reason why I believe Drawing and Talking Therapy can be so useful and beneficial. It can help give children a safe space to explore their emotions without the need of talking about their feelings directly. Children with anxiety can find this to be just the right amount of support in understanding thier internal world.
πŸ’™ A beautiful, playful, non-confrontational approach that I am truly grateful I can share with our community. πŸ’™
