📣 Devon & Cornwall Teach & Treat: Call for Expressions of Interest

For community pharmacists looking to become prescribers we are delighted to let you know that Devon and Cornwall have been successful in their bid for the National NHSE Teach & Treat (T&T) programme. Appropriate access to and capacity of supervision to support pharmacists to become independent prescribers is a challenge across the workforce, and particularly within community pharmacy.

The aim of the Devon & Cornwall Teach & Treat programme is to support community pharmacists from across the two counties to achieve their independent prescribing qualification by providing access to suitable supervisors and clinical environments

Developing independent prescribing within community pharmacy will give patients an additional point of access to experienced and skilled clinicians who will be able to consult, assess, diagnose, and prescribe within a specific remit. In turn, this should assist with some of the workload experienced by general practice and urgent care.

The Devon & Cornwall Integrated Care Systems are supporting Teach & Treat. This programme uses a cross-sector, multi-professional model to identify appropriate supervision and clinical environments for trainee prescribers. The Teach & Treat team will coordinate supervision for all T&T trainees and provide clinical skills examination sessions to complement the prescribing course.

We are inviting Expressions of Interest from community pharmacists who wish to undertake their independent prescribing qualification from September 2026 with the support of the Devon & Cornwall Teach & Treat programme

Closing date: 8th March 2026 18:00

‼️ We are expecting high demand so would like to encourage you to submit your Expression of Interest (EOI) as soon as possible.

A new awareness raising campaign was launched last week to help improve the public’s understanding of the different services available as the NHS heads into winter. The campaign features a short film, titled ‘24 hours NOT in A&E’, focusing on pharmacy, NHS 111, the NHS App and general practice showcasing the things that these services can help with – quickly and easily, you can view this here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjTp6pn0t-g
