At Whipton....Next week will be Science and Space Week, and the children will be exploring a brand‑new experiment every day. Our number of the week will be 10, our word of the week will be experiment, and our Makaton sign of the week will be ‘rocket’.
The children will be learning all about the wonders of space, rockets, and simple science as we spark curiosity and hands‑on discovery. Each day will include a different experiment, such as fizzy moon rocks, colour‑mixing potions, balloon‑powered rockets, and mini volcanoes. In the tuff tray, the children will explore a space‑themed sensory setup filled with moon dust, stars, and hidden planets to uncover.
During focus time, the children will be designing and building their own rockets, creating planets, and taking part in small‑world astronaut adventures. We will also be practising counting to 10 using stars, planets, and rocket boosters, helping the children link numeracy to their space learning. Throughout the week, we’ll be talking about what scientists do, how experiments help us learn, and what makes space such an exciting place to explore.
Last week we loved learning all about Alan’s Big Scary Teeth and exploring oral hygiene. The children enjoyed brushing giant teeth, talking about how to keep our mouths healthy, and taking part in lots of crocodile‑themed fun. On Thursday, we had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day. We dressed up, shared stories and cuddles, and some of the children even had their faces painted. It was so much fun and a lovely way to celebrate our love of books.
