OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT. As some of you know, Yoga Torquay will close its doors on the 18th of July. Our five-year lease is coming to an end and Alice and I are focusing on new projects. A lot’s changed for us in the past 5 years. Like everyone, a pandemic turned our world upside down. A positive result is that I am now in the final stages of an MA in Yogic Studies at SOAS and Alice is completing an MSc in midwifery at Plymouth University. It’s been an amazing time in Torquay and we’ve enjoyed getting to know everyone who comes to the studio each week. Classes continue to be fully booked and it’s difficult to let go of all of this. Thank you to everyone who has attended classes at the studio and all the wonderful teachers we’ve hosted through the years. A big thank you also to those of you who supported us and made us feel welcome in Torquay, especially in the early days when we didn’t know anyone. We’ve still got four weeks to go. A lot of classes are fully booked but there are a few places here and there. I hope to see lots of you before we close. I’ll be teaching at the beautiful 'Namaste Barn' from September. I’ll do a post on that soon. Thanks again and all the best. Hari Om 🙏 James and Alice 🙏❤️ xx

Yoga

My approach to yoga is as a radical, transformative practice that helps us understand what it means to be human. How we can live in this world holding truth, inquiry and equanimity in our centre, anahata.

Yoga is an ancient science of humanity, which is ever evolving to encompass the entirety of experience as lived by all of us. As such I don’t teach a style of yoga, but try to live by the philosophy that underpins the Yoga Sutra, Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads. Yoga is about searching for the divine, seeking experience that is beyond language. The health and wellbeing of those who attend my classes is highest in my mind and as such we do joint mobility, strengthening and stabilizing as well as stretching out bits that need stretching. I use Kriyas and internal bandha work to access deep internal musculature such as the pelvic floor and deep abdominals. My main focus these days is yoga as a therapeutic tool so that this body and mind may be used for it’s highest purpose of realisation and action.
