More and more people find themselves caring in every direction at once. Supporting children, helping ageing parents and managing work and everyday life in between. This is often called the sandwich generation and many people do not realise they are part of it until the pressure starts to build.

Caring in this way can be rewarding, but it can also be exhausting. Sometimes support is not about stepping away completely, but about creating breathing space. A short period of help at home can give families time to regroup, protect routines and keep everything else moving without feeling stretched to breaking point.

If you are juggling caring responsibilities and wondering what support might help, speak with our team in on 01395 200600 or visit homeinstead.co.uk/exeter-east-devon to learn more about our respite care in Exeter and East Devon.

Last week, one of our Home Care Consultants, Lesley, attended the newly built Radford House in Exeter for a meeting and to try out their chef's delicious menu! She had pan-fried salmon on a bed of green beans, new potatoes, carrots and broccoli and tiramisu and fresh fruit for dessert!

Radford House features 2 and 3 bed apartments designed for independent living in a safe environment. The building features a landscaped garden, homeowners' lounge, restaurant, therapy suite and hairdressing salon. We are currently providing our services to residents who may be interested. When families think about care, it is easy to focus on the person who comes through the door.

What often brings real reassurance is knowing there is a whole team behind every visit.

From thorough training and ongoing support for Care Professionals in Exeter and East Devon, to clear communication, supervision and continuity, it all works together to keep care safe, consistent and reliable.

That structure matters. It means visits are not just about the moment, but about noticing changes, sharing information and making sure support continues to feel right over time. It is care that is supported properly, not just delivered.

To find out how our team supports every care visit in Exeter and East Devon, call our team on 01395 200600 or visit homeinstead.co.uk/exeter-east-devon.

Evenings can be one of the hardest parts of the day, especially when someone is feeling tired, unsteady or unsettled. A calm visit at the end of the day can make a real difference, helping with meal time, preparing for bed and making sure everything feels safe and settled before lights out.

For families, it brings reassurance knowing their loved one is comfortable and cared for, even when they cannot be there themselves. It is not just about practical help, it is about ending the day on a good note.

When you cannot be there in person, knowing how a loved one is really doing can make all the difference.

Families often tell us how reassuring it is to receive updates after visits, see how mum or dad’s day has gone and know they can easily speak to the local team if they need to.

Just as importantly, strong relationships grow over time.

Many families come to see the Care Professionals supporting their loved one as an extension of the family, people who truly know them and notice the small things. That combination of personal connection and clear communication helps everyone feel supported and involved, wherever they are.

To find out how we keep families informed and connected in Exeter and East Devon, call 01395 200600 or visit homeinstead.co.uk/exeter-east-devon.

Last week we paid a visit to Budleigh Salterton Library 📚

Supporting our local libraries really matters because they bring together both young people and older generations. For young people, libraries are safe, welcoming spaces where they can explore new ideas, use technology, get homework help, and discover books that spark their imagination. For elderly members of the community, libraries offer connection, learning opportunities, and friendly faces - whether through mother and baby groups, crafting clubs, educational talks, computer support sessions, or simply a quiet place to read and relax.

We have had clients in Budleigh for years who make use of the library every week and some that we have delivered books to when they can no longer get out and about. Libraries really are a pillar of the community and sadly, they are at risk of having their funding cut.

Have your say on this dissapointing proposal by filling in their survey: https://devonlibraries.commonplace.is/en-GB/proposals/v3/main-consultation-questions?step=step1&fbclid=IwY2xjawQBMMJleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETE2dUp5Y0M2bDRYaVQwVnVrc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHlaYwqzknaJ3icmf06RLIwPhaehMyQ9z0eXQ78PkHoxINPLET5w3TH7a5FNe_aem_CXaApiPMxDROe9Aqs4G2ZA

The consultation is open until Sunday 22nd February (this Sunday).
