Endometriosis affects around 1 in 10 people of reproductive age in the UK—around 1.5 million individuals—and can cause significant pain and menstrual disruption. At the Exeter Acupuncture Project, we treat patients with this issue and other menstruation-related concerns. With our practitioners, a dedicated course of acupuncture can support the body’s natural gynecological function, providing significant pain relief and a much healthier menstrual cycle. 🌿

Spring, the Wood Element & Gentle Detox – Chinese Medicine Wisdom 🌿

As we move into spring, we enter the season of the Wood element in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Just like trees begin to bud and grow, this is a time of renewal, movement, and fresh starts.

In TCM, spring is connected to the Liver and Gallbladder, which help keep our Qi (energy) flowing smoothly. When supported, we feel motivated, clear-headed, and inspired. When stuck, we may feel irritable, tense, or sluggish.

Instead of harsh detoxes, Chinese medicine recommends a gentle seasonal reset:

🥬 Eat more fresh, green foods – spinach, kale, watercress, broccoli, wild garlic
🍋 Add a little sour flavor – lemon in warm water, apple cider vinegar
🌱 Lighten up meals – reduce heavy, greasy foods
🌾 Choose lightly cooked foods – steaming and quick stir-fries
💧 Stay hydrated to help the body naturally cleanse

Spring is also the perfect time to:
✨ Stretch (especially hips and sides of the body)
✨ Spend time outdoors
✨ Start new projects
✨ Clear clutter – physically and emotionally

Think of this season as an opportunity to grow in the direction you want 🌸🌳

We’re still in the Water season (winter) within the Five Elements — the most yin time of the year.
Even though modern life rarely gives us the deep rest this season calls for, nature is quietly reminding us to slow down.

Snowdrops are about to lift their heads, gently hinting that spring isn’t far away. Before we know it, we’ll move into the Wood season of early spring, with daffodils and wild garlic encouraging us to gently detox winter and prepare to burst back into life.

But until then, let’s take every excuse we can to hibernate and rest when possible — so that when summer (Fire season) arrives, the height of yang and activity, we’re not burnt out from ignoring our need for rest at this very time of year ✨

Hygge (pronounced hyoo-guh) is a Danish word that refers to a feeling of coziness, comfort, warmth, and contentment. It’s about enjoying simple pleasures — like soft lighting, warm blankets, good company, candles, tea, or a peaceful atmosphere. Bring in the winter water season with this in mind ✨
