Openbreathworks

Openbreathworks The breath is a transformative tool for all aspects of life. We provide breathing classes to groups and work one to one with individuals.

We work with individuals and groups to unlock their awareness of their breath through an experiential journey.

Class 10 – 23/11/21
Shapes and Function
This Tuesday our breathwork class started with the image of a barrel and imagining our ribs, as the barrel structure. The imagery continued with the thought of our diaphragm being the base of the barrel. With these visual cues, we were able to work more on the expansion and contraction of the whole length of our lungs. By using breathing patterns to gradually increase the length of our inhale and exhale, we were able to slow down our breathing rate with a smoothness and quietness.

We had the opportunity to observe and become aware of how seemingly simple movements, such as rolling from side to side, can be initiated from different parts of our bodies. Also how directing our breath can impact on our movements, particularly when initiating altered breathing patterns.

Through slowing down and focusing on one thing, we were able to learn more about how our own individual bodies responded to movement. What we can learn lying down, can influence how we move when standing up.
The next breathwork class will be on Tuesday 30th November, in The Music Room, Eynsham. 7 – 8pm. This will be the penultimate class. The last breathwork class will run on Tuesday 7th December, please come and join us.

A new area of practice was introduced to the Breathworks class this Tuesday. We started exploring the concept of heart rate variability (HRV).
During the Breathworks class this week, we started to tune into our heart rate and changed our breathing patterns to explore the changes in our heart rate further.
The emphasis was on being a witness and letting go, rather than judging our bodies. It was a starting point for developing awareness of our own biofeedback and how this might be impacting on our breath and possibly also our health.

We are looking forward to another class exploring the power of our breath tomorrow – Tuesday 23rd November. 7-8pm. The Music Room, Eynsham.

Last Tuesday, the 9th November, marked the return of the Breathworks Class. In the preceding time, the clocks have gone back and we are starting to see and feel winter approaching. Depending on your perspective this can conjure up emotions across the scale from negative to positive. It is quite possible that between us, we may hold quite opposite beliefs.
The idea of opposites is intriguing, particularly if we relate this to our bodies and the idea that a movement or action in one part, may cause an opposite effect in another part.
Last Tuesday through our breath practice, we dived into feeling the relationship between different parts of our body. What happens when we move one part in one, and then another in a different way. Noticing when it felt uncomfortable or easier. By playing with opposites we were able to generate an awareness often seldom explored. How can lying on your back, focusing on your breath release muscle tightness in different parts of your body?
The breathwork class gives space to scan your body at the start of the class and then rescan at the end and notice anything that might be the same or different. Lying on our backs breathing, we may wonder the benefits. The breathwork class gives an opportunity to find out for yourself.

We are looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday 16th November, 7 – 8pm in The Music Room, Eynsham.

A week away - definitely gave me space to breathe! I reflected on how I spend my time, how do I approach the events happening in my day. How is my breath influenced by what I am doing and how can my breathe influence how I feel?

Breathwork classes start again tomorrow (Tuesday 2nd November). 7-8pm. The Music Room, Eynsham. All are welcome, no experience needed. £10/class. Come and give it a go.

Find the ground, always a good place to start. Grounding yourself before embarking on any decision making or activity can help provide a space for tapping into your consciousness. When you are conscious and present, a different clarity of a situation may arise.

Breathwork can provide rest and relaxation. It can also provide deep muscle activation and move us into a place of discomfort. With discomfort can come growth.

To discover more come and join our breathwork class on Tuesday 7-8pm in The Music Room, Eynsham. Drop in. (£10/class)

Contrasts can be helpful. They can provide opportunities to compare and see how small changes can create differences. In our Tuesday breathwork class this week we focused on three areas that underpin our breath: Biochemical, biomechanics and cadence. We did specific exercises for each pillar, checking in to see what we were noticing.
How soft could we breathe?
How light could we breathe?
How low could we breathe?

Turbulent water and still water. Air entry into the lungs can be similar. Awareness of breathing through the nose, slowing the breath down, breathing low (using the diaphragm) and breathing light. These can all help to reduce the turbulence of air entering the lungs.

Breathworks Class - Every Tuesday 7-8pm. Drop in welcome.
This week we practiced directional breathing and breath holds whilst moving. Two very different practices but fantastic ways of connecting with the body and seeing how our body reacts in different conditions
