📚 Happy World Book Day!

Today we’re celebrating by sharing some of our favourite books that help children build emotional literacy — recognising feelings, understanding them, and finding ways to manage big emotions.

Here are a few we love:

✨ The Colour Monster – helps children connect physical sensations with emotional labels
✨ Ruby’s Worry – a brilliant way to help children visualise anxiety and understand how it can grow
✨ The Invisible String – a gentle story about staying connected to the people we love, even when we’re apart
✨ A Case of the Zaps – opens up conversations about anxiety and normalises the feelings that come with it
✨ The Koala Who Could – supports children with change, bravery, and overcoming worries
✨ Have You Filled Your Bucket Today? – teaches kindness, empathy, and how our words and actions affect others

Stories are powerful tools for helping children make sense of their emotions — and these are a wonderful place to start.

Do you have any recommendations to add to the list? Let us know in the comments below.

A terrifying statistic, but many parents and professionals across the UK know all too well how accurate it is. They are struggling to know the best ways to support children who are persistently absent due to emotional wellbeing and mental health issues.

𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘶𝘵𝘦 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱.

Research by Place2Be has shown that enabling a child or young person to access one-to-one counselling sessions can reduce the odds of persistent absence. Additionally, it helps improve children's outcomes and experiences at school.

Our experienced practitioners offer support through private counselling at our three offices, online, or within schools.

Being truly present with a child or young person in a safe, calm environment does more than offer comfort—it helps rewire the nervous system.

💜It shows:

▪️You’re safe now

▪️Connection can feel good

▪️There’s a different reality beyond past experiences

Every moment of safety is a new experience for the body and brain. It’s how healing begins.

Our team works with care and intention to make sure every child feels safe, seen, and supported—and we put real effort into building strong, trusting relationships. Learn more about our backgrounds and experience here: https://theparachuteproject.co.uk/about/

Lucy works across all three of our office sites, as well as visiting schools to work 1:1 with children and deliver workshops. And if you were lucky, you might have been one of the happy group who joined her summer session with Poppy the horse!

If you think our in‑school provision could benefit individual children you work with, or if you’d like to learn more about our programmes for whole classes, you can read more about our schools offer here: https://theparachuteproject.co.uk/schools/

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝

"My son was referred to The Parachute Project in school when we were going through a really tough time. Sharon has been amazing, she has taken time with him to help him with ways to regulate and identify his emotions but also taken time to talk to myself about how I can help at home too. Not only has she been a wonderful support to my son she is always there for me too even if it's just a little boost on a tough day."

Stories like this remind us why it’s so important that families receive the right support at the right time. When parents feel equipped and children feel understood, the whole family can begin to move forward with more confidence, connection, and hope.

We are happy to discuss each individual's situation - please feel free to call us on 01328 838 847 so we can make a difference to your child's mental health.

This last week of February is Eating Disorders Awareness Week, dedicated to raising public awareness, promoting understanding, and supporting those affected.

Did you know that about 1.25 million people in the UK have an eating disorder in one form or another? That’s roughly 2% of the entire UK population.

Eating disorders thrive in silence. No one impacted by an eating disorder should struggle alone.

At The Parachute Project, we want to see all mental illness related to eating disorders talked about just like any other physical illness, without stigma and people unashamed to ask for information and help.

If you or someone you care about would like support from one-to-one sessions with one of our Mental Health Practitioners you can get in touch using one of the ways listed below. Alternatively, visit our Safe Landing Community Hub in Fakenham, for non-judgmental advice and resources. Keep an eye out for the dates and times of our drop-in sessions.

Sarah manages our offer and the provision for our Education and Wellbeing Hub. She leads our tailored support for children who need an alternative approach to learning, ensuring every young person feels safe, understood, and able to re‑engage with education at a pace that works for them.

Our Therapeutic Education Packages provide a flexible, relationship‑centred model that wraps around each child’s individual needs. We work closely with schools, local authorities, and social care teams to create plans that prioritise wellbeing, emotional safety, and meaningful progress.

We welcome referrals from professionals, and each one is carefully considered to make sure our provision is the right fit for the child.
