I took a midday walk by the duck pond to survey the aftermath of the recent storm. Five enormous trees had toppled, their mighty roots exposed to the crisp winter air. A passerby remarked on the impressive damage. I nodded and said, "They’re such beautiful trees. Every autumn, they put on a glowing display of warm colours. For the past twenty years, I’ve stopped to admire them—like old friends, really."

The other walker paused, tilted his head thoughtfully, and said, "Yes. Now there is space for new ones."

His words lingered, a quiet reminder of life's constant cycles. 🌳

Today, I spotted my first snowdrops of the year on campus at the University of Stirling, a tiny cluster nestled near the path. These delicate blooms feel like whispers of spring amidst the chill of winter—a quiet reminder of resilience and renewal.

As I walked along, it struck me that today is a school day, in more ways than one. Snowdrops show us that even in the coldest seasons, life finds a way to emerge, grow, and reach for the light. Perhaps every day is a school day, offering lessons in patience, curiosity, and noticing the beauty that’s already here. 🌨🌿❄️

One of the wonderful things about being based at Callendar House is that an art gallery is a mere 30 steps from my front door. If you have time today, come on over and take a look at this amazing artwork created by local high school students, i.e., creative geniuses. 🎨🖼🎭

S*x and gender are often spoken about as though they’re simple, straightforward concepts—but the truth is, they’re much more nuanced and beautifully complex.

Biological s*x, while often understood in terms of XX or XY chromosomes, isn’t always binary. Some people are born with variations like XXY or mosaicism, or with anatomy and hormones that don’t fit neatly into the typical definitions of male or female. This is part of the natural diversity in human biology.

Gender, on the other hand, is a deeply personal experience shaped by how we see ourselves and how we express who we are. It’s not solely tied to biology—it’s also influenced by culture, society, and our unique inner world. Many cultures throughout history have recognised more than two genders, offering a broader perspective on identity that embraces fluidity and difference.

The beauty of exploring s*x and gender lies in understanding that neither is fixed or one-size-fits-all. Instead, they reflect a spectrum of experiences, shaped by biology, psychology, and social connections. Recognising and honouring this complexity allows us to hold space for others in a way that’s compassionate, open-hearted, and affirming.

We’re all beautifully unique, and that’s worth celebrating.

🌸 Life can feel like steering a little boat through shifting tides. Some days, the waters are calm, the journey effortless. Other days, waves crash, the wheel feels heavy, and the horizon disarmingly blurry. 🛶

Mindfulness is a quiet compass, whispering reminders to pause. To notice the soft lap of waves against the hull, the salty air on your skin, the distant calls of seabirds overhead. 🌊🕊

Even in the wildest waters, there are wildflowers blooming along the shore. 🌼 Breathe in, steady your hands, and remember: the journey is yours to navigate, with all its beauty, storms, and stillness. 💗

🌿 Untangling the Knots of the Mind 🌿

Sometimes, our minds feel like a jumble of tangled threads—worries pulling one way, fears pulling another, each knot tightening with every turn.

But here’s the beauty of sharing: when we speak our tangles aloud, when we let someone gently hold the threads with us, the knots begin to loosen. Worry unravels, confusion softens, and what once felt impossible to navigate transforms into something manageable, even beautiful.

From a tangled mess to a smooth, vibrant spool—ready to create, to grow, to weave something meaningful. 🧵

You don’t have to untangle it all alone. 🧶

Snowy Night by Mary Oliver

Last night, an owl
in the blue dark
tossed an indeterminate number
of carefully shaped sounds into
the world, in which,
a quarter of a mile away, I happened
to be standing.
I couldn’t tell
which one it was –
the barred or the great-horned
ship of the air –
it was that distant. But, anyway,
aren’t there moments
that are better than knowing something,
and sweeter? Snow was falling,
so much like stars
filling the dark trees
that one could easily imagine
its reason for being was nothing more
than prettiness. I suppose
if this were someone else’s story
they would have insisted on knowing
whatever is knowable – would have hurried
over the fields
to name it – the owl, I mean.
But it’s mine, this poem of the night,
and I just stood there, listening and holding out my hands to the soft glitter
falling through the air. I love this world,
but not for its answers.
And I wish good luck to the owl,
whatever its name –
and I wish great welcome to the snow,
whatever its severe and comfortless
and beautiful meaning.

✨ "I can honestly say you have changed my life." ✨

It's moments like these that remind me why I do what I do. Creating a safe, supportive space for my clients to rediscover their strength and joy is at the heart of my work. 🌿

This client’s journey from anxiety to confidence is a beautiful testament to the power of small, mindful steps—like reflecting on three good things each day. 🌟

If you're ready to take your own steps toward healing, growth, and self-discovery, I’d be honoured to support you. 🕊️

There is no time. Like the present.

As one year ends and another begins, I’ve been reflecting on the curious nature of time. It’s easy to think of it as something linear—a steady march forward—but what if it’s far more fluid? I believe we are constantly living and resolving our past while creating our future, moment by moment. Time, as we know it, may be a human construct, but the experiences that shape us are timeless.

Neil Gaiman once wrote, “I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes… because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world.”

And as Fred Rogers so gently reminded us, life is full of journeys, both beginnings and endings, and every step offers moments of delight, of joy, and even the space to rest and reflect.

So tonight, as the clock strikes midnight, I hope you pause—not to race into resolutions, but to embrace the present. Whether it’s a quiet moment with yourself, a shared kiss with someone you love, or simply a smile at the wonder of being here—may it be enough.

Happy Hogmanay and Happy New Year. Here’s to what was, what is, and what may yet be.

In the space between the past and the future, the old year and the new, time offers a rare stillness. Notice the subtle rhythm of your breath, the quiet outside, and the ease of simply being. A gentle pause. 🌟

With five exams in the coming three weeks, it's time to get back to the books. 📚 But first things first, I awoke gently and listened to a blackbird singing while sipping green tea. Then, I eased into revision with an hour of reading, followed by an hour of walking. 🚶‍♀️
The rest of my day will be consumed with books, notes, and a laptop screen, but I intend to pop another walk in this afternoon. So much sitting around just doesn't feel good. Whatever you're up to today, I hope you'll get a chance to take in some nature and enjoy essential self-care. 🙏🌿🐦

Teresa Johnston, Energy Medicine Practitioner & Spiritual Wellness Teacher

Hello. My name is Teresa Johnston and I am an energy medicine practitioner and a therapy radiographer with over 18 years of experience working in radiation oncology. I have worked in major research hospitals in Seattle and Manhattan as well as in Glasgow and Edinburgh. My experiences and beliefs have led me to train in and work with energy healing, Reiki and mindfulness meditation. I have been practicing energy healing since 2008.

People often ask what “holistic” means. Holistic means to treat the whole person. This means that as therapist, I consider a person’s entire health with regards to illness and disease as impacted by factors such as lifestyle, environment, nutrition, and exercise. Holistic health advice also takes into regard a person's stress levels with the aim to help each person to find healthy balance in life.

During a session, we will discuss your issues and challenges and I will provide you with integrative care tools to both manage concerns and also to move on from the difficulties. Together we can address a wide range of health and emotional challenges including cancer, fertility issues, grief from loss loved ones, anxiety, and depression.
