Are these yoga teacher stereotypes putting you off…?
The idea that to be a yoga teacher, you have to:
Get up at 5am to meditate (I’m s**t at meditating)
Drink green smoothies and speak in whispers
Be able to wrap your leg around your head
Have your life sorted and be zen 24/7
Most yoga teachers I know are slightly bonkers (and I can say this after 16 years in the game). Most of us were drawn to yoga because it calmed us, not because we were already floating around in perfect bliss... and most of us continue to need it for the same reason!
The teachers who connect with students aren’t the ones doing insta-worthy poses. They’re the ones just like us, of all different ages, shapes, flexibility. The ones who say “my mind is all over the place today too” and help you work with where you’re at, with understanding.
What you actually need to be a great yoga teacher:
✨ A love of yoga (obviously)
✨ The desire to share it
✨ The ability to be real with people
That’s it.
Not perfect flexibility. Not a pristine lifestyle. Not expensive yoga gear. Just... you.
And if this stereotype is putting you off even trying yoga, then the same applies!
What’s one yoga teacher stereotype that puts you off, or that just winds you up?!
